A View From the Top

We all laugh in excitement as our raft floats away from the island. "Goodbye, Jurassic World." Darius says looking back at the island. "Goodbye, Bumpy" Ben says watching Bumpy towards the water and call out to him. I put my hand on Ben's shoulder trying to confort him. That is quickly cut short when Kenji starts laughing like a maniac. "See ya NEVER you stupid Dino island! You thought you could eat us? No way! You thought you could stomp on us? Think again!" Kenji yells, glad to be off the island. "Yeah! You thought you could crush our spirits? Impossible!" Sammy says joining the crazy. They both start to cheer together.

"To be fair, the island did crush my spirit... but then I defeated Toro." Been says with a smirk. "Ughhh not again" Yaz says, not wanting to hear the Toro story for the millionth time. "Well Bumpy likes it when I tell it." Ben says shyly. Before anyone can respond the raft is hit with a heavy wave, shaking the entire raft. "Um guys!" I yell pointing at a huge wave that's about to tower us. "Everyone secure the vines!" Brooklyn yells out. "How?" Yas yells back. "I don't know! Pull on them?" Brooklyn says back. "You said you have raft experience!" Yas says. "I said some raft experience! Some!" Brooklyn yells. "Oh so only some of us will die!" Yas says sarcastically. And as if matters couldn't get worse the sail on the raft broke and the wind took it away. "Welp we're screwed." I say watching the wave before it crashes on us.

We all wash up back on shore and it's a very quiet walk back to camp. Well with the exception of Ben calling out to find bumpy. "Camp meeting!" Darius yells when we make it back. "Another one" Kenji groans in annoyance and honestly, I'm right the with him. "Ok so good news, there's still no sign of compies around camp. Bad news, raft attempt number one was kinda..." Darius says trailing off at the end. "Bad" "Wet" "Didn't work" the others start to list out. "It wasn't a total disaster" Darius says trying to keep hope, to bad hope died when we almost did. "We lost the raft and almost drowned" Sammy was plainly. "How exactly is that not a disaster?" I add. "We didn't get eaten by dinosaurs?" Darius tries to counter. "Yeah, instead we got swallowed by the water and spit back out." I say sarcastically.

"We're out of options. We've tried kayaks, gyrospheres, more gyrospheres, Yaz's bad find a helicopter and learn to fly it ourselves plan." Brooklyn says marking off each idea and throwing a lot a shade. "In Yaz's defense, it almost worked, I just got a little too excited." I say sweat dropping. So note to self, when you get the helicopter off the ground, don't celebrate while still holding the controls. It doesn't end well. "How and what about Brooklyn's worse let's go back into the tunnels and look for a phone idea?" Yaz says marking off Brooklyn's idea.

"Think, what haven't we tried." Brooklyn says desperately. "I'm just gonna pitch it one more time." Kenji says confidently. "For the last time we are not making a human catapult." Yaz says annoyed. "How do we know it can't be done if we never try." Kenji says defensively. "I think your idea sounds fun at least" Sammy says. "Thank you Sammy, I always appreciate your optimism." Kenji says. "Aw, thanks kenji." Sammy says causing them both to laugh.

"I still think a boat is the way to go, we just need a better sail." Darius says. "Not to be a downer but it took us weeks to find enough usable fabric for the last sail." Yaz says. "And even if we do find a sail what's gonna save us from another killer wave." Brooklyn says. "There's gotta be a fix, every problem has a fix." Darius says still being optimistic. I have to give it to him, he's a great actor. He might have the rest convinced that he's still hopeful, but not me. I can see it in his eyes, he's starting to lose hope. "Ben what do you think?" Darius says to Ben looking for some back up. However he's let down when he realizes Ben isn't paying attention to the conversation.

"Ben?" No response. "Ben?" No response. "Ben!" No response. "Yo jungle boy!" Kenji yells, that gets his attention. "What do you think?" Kenji asks him. "Yeah um, what you said." Ben answered. "Really? You think a human catapult is the best idea." Yaz questioned. "Oh! No, that's stupid. Darius is right. A raft is the way to go." Ben says. "Thank you!" Darius yells. "Fine. Since there are no other options, raft it is." Brooklyn scoff is defeat. "Great, now that we're on the same page, where can we scavenge a sail that we haven't already looked?" Darius asks. "It's a shame we can't just go up to Lookout Point and hang glide all the way to Casta Rica." Kenji says moving his arms mimicking like he's hang gliding. "Wait, what's lookout point?" Darius questions. "It's up the mountain towards the west. It's like a whole deal. They've got hang gliders and everything. I used to go all the time." Kenji rambles. "Hang gliders... as in pieces of material that are literally designed to catch the wind." Darius says causing everyone but kenji to look in my direction. "Hey, don't look at me. I didn't even know that was here." I say defensively, but it quickly turns into a smile as the others start laughing. "Hey! We could use that as a sail." Kenji says being the last on to come to the realization. "Good idea kenji." Darius says sarcastically causing everyone to laugh.
