Chapter 1
Phillipa's POV:
I woke up in the morning with a weird feeling in my stomach. Not because I felt sick, it was because the rehearsals would start today. I thought about it again. It's been so many years since Sara and I talked properly for the last time and it just made my whole body nervous when I just thought about it. Not because I still had feelings for her. Definitely not. I'm over her. It was because we ended our relationship all these years ago very abruptly and I somehow never found the closure I needed.
I sighted as I noticed that overthinking the situation wouldn't help me so I looked at the clock, which was on the table next to my bed. 8:15am. I could turn around again and sleep for a couple more hours but my body was too nervous to do so. So I got out of my bed, put my hair into a messy bun and changed from my mint green sleep tanktop and shorts into my favourite white tanktop and a brown long skirt. As I was finished with changing, I took a look into the mirror.
Damn the bags under my eyes were huge. "This is what happens, when you're laying awake all night just thinking about your ex girlfriend." I said to myself, as I was trying to find something to cover up the bags. Twenty minutes later I was finished and went into the kitchen. As I was making me some eggs in the pan, I drifted up into my thoughts again.
Was Sara also thinking about me as much as I thought about her? Maybe I'm being too dramatic and at the end the whole situation won't be a big deal. Maybe we'll just agree to work together and that would be it. We would work for three months together and then we'll go separate paths again, as we did the past six years. I should've hoped that this would actually happen, but a tiny voice inside of my stupid little mind, was hoping to actually become friends with Sara again and to closure the whole relationship in a better way than we did 6 years ago.
As I was thinking, I noticed the smell of something burning in the room. I immediately looked down, just to see my eggs being completely burned and not eatable anymore in the pan. I sighted in exhaustion, as I put the eggs into the trash. "If the day starts like this, it just could get better, right?" I said to myself, hoping I was right.
The morning went by fast and soon it was 1:30pm. The rehearsals would start at 2pm so I got my fanny pack from the kitchen table and went to the door. Before I left, I looked again into the mirror. The bags under my eyes disappeared gladly. At least I looked now less fucked up. As I was studying myself in the mirror I thought about putting on a bit lipstick. But I immediately let this thought down, since I don't want to be weird and go to rehearsals with lipstick on it. It were just rehearsals, nothing serious.
'It wouldn't surprise me, if Sara would appear in her cute kangaroo pyjamas, she used to wear all the time, when we were dating' I thought to myself. 'The pyjamas flattered her body so much, especially her butt- wait no, Pippa' I immediately cut off my thoughts since I didnt like where they were going. 'We're not thinking about Sara's butt.' I shook my head to get rid of this silly thought and finally left my apartment.
As I got into my car, I connected my phone with the car, to play a playlist of songs recommended for me by Spotify. I needed some distraction right now so I started playing it and 'I wanna dance with somebody' by Whitney Houston came on. I turned on the engine and sang along the song, as I was driving through the messy New York City traffic. The song ended quickly and I expected an another song like this to come up but to my frustration, the next song to be in the playlist was "She used to be mine" sang by no other person than Sara Bareilles. I was looking at my phone, which was lying on the seat next to me, in betrayal. I couldn't skip the song, since I had to focus on the traffic, so I had to listen to Sara.
Fifteen minutes later I finally arrived, parked my car and went into the building, in which the rehearsals were planned to be. I was walking into the rehearsal room just to see a familiar face first. I was immediately welcomed greeted by Brian d'Arcy James, with whom I already worked with in hamilton. "Hey Pipsy!" He said happily, as he was giving me a hug. "I'm still allowed to call you that right?" "Sure." I answered with a smile back. After that I got to know the rest of the cast, which included Julia Lester, Patina Miller, Joshua Henry and of course Gavin Creel, who'd play my prince.
After I greeted everyone, I looked around in the room, it wasn't like I would've been thrilled to meet Sara again, but it made me a bit nervous that she didn't seem to be here yet. Five minutes later the big door of the room opened again just to see Sara walking into the room with her dog called Louie. And no I don't know that the name's Louie because I was looking up her social media pages the night before, it's common knowledge that she has a dog called Louie.
Sara went over to Brian first and then started to greet everyone else. She didn't even seem to notice me at first, which was fine, wasn't it? While she was greeting everyone else, I had time to analyse Sara. It's been such a while since I saw her and she hasn't changed a bit. Her sweet dimples were still there, as she was smiling and her eyes were still glowing in excitement like they already did over six years ago. 'What am I doing?' I thought to myself, as I caught myself starring at Sara straight. 'You broke up a while ago. You're over her.' I kept telling myself in my mind.
I noticed Sara greeted Patina and then Julia, which were standing close to me. As she was finished greeting Patina she looked around in the room to see, if she has forgotten to greet someone. That was the moment, when I locked eye contact with her. My pulse was rasing, as she slowly walked towards me with Louie on the leash. I felt how I began to sweat and my heart was rasing in my chest. Its been so many years.
"Hey Pippa." Sara said then in a surprisingly friendly voice, while she kept some space between us. "Hi Sara." I said friendly, but unsure what to say to her. "How are you?" She continued the conversation. "I'm doing good. I'm very excited for this show, how about you?" I asked politely back, not wanting to ruin our friendly tension. "I'm also good, thanks, if you excuse me, I need to take care of Louie for a second." She ended the conversation nicely, before she left the room with Louie again.
'That was something' I thought to myself, as my pulse was slowly getting back to normal. It wasn't the worst first meet up after six years ever. Let's just hope that it stays that way. The first rehearsals went kinda good. Even though Sara didn't even look at me once during the whole rehearsals, which kinda annoyed me a bit. I'm not complaining that Sara doesn't show me any attention, I just feel overlooked if she doesn't look at me.
Soon it was 5pm and the rehearsals finally finished. Everyone was grabbing their stuff and left the room. I took my fanny pack from the chair on which I left it on and already wanted to leave, as someone was grabbing my wrist from the behind. As soon as I felt the grip, I recognised the soft tender hands, which were holding my wrist, which got my heart beating faster again. I turned around to see Sara grabbing my wrist, sadly she immediately let go of my hand, as I turned around and looked at her in confusion.
"Can we talk for a second?" She asked me with a kind voice. Of course I nodded and went with her into a separate room. As I closed the door behind me, she immediately started to talk. "I just wanted to make sure, that were on the same page. I don't want any personal issues at work, so hopefully what happened between us all these years ago, won't affect our work environment anymore." "Sure." I answered in a monotonous voice, while shrugging with my shoulders. I don't know why but I felt a bit hurt after her statement. We haven't talked to each other in over six years and the thing she wants to talk about is the work environment. I mean I understood that she was worried about it, but there was so much more she could've said.
"Good, I'm happy to hear that, but I need to go now. My-" She stopped for a moment in her sentence, while she seemed to search for the right word. "My uber must be already waiting for me outside." She said then and went to the door. "Bye Pippa." Were the last words, before she left the room and left me alone back. Who would've thought this day would end like this? I could've expected it but somehow I thought the day would be different. There was this strange feeling inside of me, what wanted more than what happened today. I didn't know what this feeling wanted but I'd figure it out soon...
