Well, the day is here. Or should I say night? Because it's currently 10:45 p.m. and I expected that son of a bitch to get here way earlier.Yes. I hate whoever he is already. Because I'm ninety nine percent sure he will try to hook up with me. I could've just invited Shuhua to stay here for three months so I wasn't alone, but my parents, whom I still live with, insisted on a butler so he could also do some housework for me.
I'm sitting on my bed, still upset about this whole thing, until I hear my mom call my name.
"Coming!" I yell. I sigh and push myself up from the bed, walking towards my door and then downstairs. It's full of suitcases down here, and Haku and Mata seem scared. My dad is dragging the suitcases outside, then he quickly comes back and gets some bags.
"Well, listen, something happened and..." She doesn't sound upset like something happened. "Let's just say, you won't have a butler."
I widen my eyes, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Really?!"
Mom smiles. "Really. Rather...someone to keep you company."
I watch as my dad steps inside again and gets even more bags. Haku and Mata have fallen asleep. I look back at my mom.
"I don't understand," I say, my voice automatically becoming tinier as I realize this might not be what I think. "What do you—"
My dad opens the door from outside, but this time he doesn't step in. My mom smiles in the direction of the door, then gestures with a nod for me to turn around.
I do turn around to face the door, and I freeze. I do not believe who is standing in front of me can actually be here.
It's like everything about her has changed, but somehow she's still the same, small, brown haired girl she used to be. Even though her hair is now black and it looks a little softer.
Soyeon looks just as surprised to see me. I open my mouth to say something, but tiny little choked sounds come out instead and then I sigh.
"Well, turns out she's the supposed butler's cousin." Mom says. "At least say hi, come on, you two were inseparable," She nudges my shoulder, making things awkward. Why should I know what to say when even Soyeon herself doesn't?
She exhales and looks at my mom. "Thank you for having me."
God, I missed hearing her voice. It sounds slightly deeper than before, but, well, it's still the same. My dad steps inside and nods to Soyeon as a greeting, before saying, "Pleased to have you here."
"We should get going now," My mom says. She looks at me before pulling me into a long, long hug. "Take care of yourself and Soyeon and Haku and Mata, okay?"
I nod and smile faintly. "I will."
I hug my dad while my mom pets Haku and Mata. Soyeon just watches, clutching the handles of her two suitcases in both of her hands.
My mom hugs Soyeon aswell and kisses her cheeks. Finally, it's time for them to leave for Europe, and also, to leave me in Soyeon's hands, technically. I watch as their car drives off our driveway to the airport, and then close the door and face Soyeon.
But when I look into her eyes, everything comes back. Every fucking thing. Every fucking mistake.
"I... What are the odds?" I say with a smile, walking with open arms towards her. Soyeon is quick to hug me and I instantly feel like a teenager again. As far as I know, Soyeon didn't go to college and instead pursued her career in music and made a name for herself, while I did take two years of photography. Things didn't end well between us, but she's hugging me.
