When I jumped into the lake, it's like I jumped into my own doom. I knew I wasn't supposed to, they even warned me not to, but I'd do anything for the ones I love. While I was sinking into the middy water, I saw a figure swimming towards me. It looked familiar. It was Victor. He was swimming in the water with me, why? He grabbed my arm and pulled me down into the darkness, I felt the urge to breathe kick in and I started to fight his grip. He wouldn't let go. He was looking directly at me as we sunk, he said something and I saw the air bubbles escape his mouth. I tried to read his lips, but I couldn't. I started to kick and pull away from him, I couldn't breathe under here, he pulled me next to him and as he did I saw his eyes turn red. He smiled and said "Stay away from me." He let my arm go and I swam as fast as I could, I felt someone grab my body and pull me out of the water. I couldn't see who it was but I heard a voice say "Darling, you'll be okay." I didn't know who it was, and I couldn't see him because of the water and dirt in my eyes, but his voice sounded comforting and peaceful.

I woke up, I was still in the hospital and I was still alone.

"Your friends went home." I was startled by a nurse who was fixing my breakfast. I didn't notice her. Her voice was familiar.

"You're a strong one." She said smiling at me.

"Th- thanks."

"I suppose you're feeling better?" She said pulling out a tray and a spoon.

"I'm not."

"How did you manage to get yourself to wake up?" She said staring directly at me.

"I... Don't know.. I heard my friend, she was talking about my mom passing away and I just lost it." I began to cry.

"Oh, honey, Carol was such a wonderful lady. She came into your room everyday. She sang you lullabies." She sat next to me.

"She knew you would wake up. She didnt lose hope." She grabbed my hand.

"She's in a better place now you know?"

I kept crying. I couldn't accept it. I wouldn't. My mother was everything to me, she was my life, my love, and now she was gone. I needed to leave this hospital. I was about to ask the nurse why I couldn't move my legs when a doctor walked in. He looked middle aged and serious.

"Guerrero, Carolyn" he picked up an eyebrow and looked at me. I wiped my tears away.

"Yes."

"We'll how are you doing today?" He closed the door.

"I'm fine." I lied.

"We'll according to Dr. Mat, he's concerned about the bullet that penetrated your spinal cord."

I had gotten shot in the back? Wa that why I couldn't feel my legs? I began to worry.

"Tell me can you wiggle your toes for me." He said pulling the cover from my legs. I tried to, but I couldn't. My legs were completely numb.

"I'm gonna use a needle and you tell me if you feel anything." He took out a needle and poked my foot. I felt a little sting.

"I kinda felt that." He looked up at me.

"thats good!"He kept poking and poking and I twitched my foot a bit.

"Well good news Carolyn, you're not paralyzed. It seems the bullet didnt cause much damage at all."

Thank god. I was already trying to restrain myself from breaking down again. I knew a lot about being paralyzed, my cousin Drew was paralyzed since he was born. It sucked having to see him and his family suffer. The nurse left me with my hot breakfast and left talking to the doctor about another patient they had that needed to be checked on.
