Her heart froze and her mind seemed to be going on a unbearable roller coaster. Deja via washed over her. This wasn't happening. Lacey pounded her forehead with her shaky fists. This is happening!. It was happening..right now! He had reassured that she would be safe from them. Why had she let Tate leave? Why did she have to be so damn stubborn all the time? She had assured him over and over that she was fine staying alone. That she would be safe..but she wasn't. Right now, she was everything but safe. A sizzlingly crack pierced her ears reminding her that she wasn't alone in the house. Far from it. The hairs on her back stood up. Had they really found her already? It seemed impossible, but these days everything was possible. Lacey snatched the nearest pillow holding it close to her chest she scrabbled beneath the bed as quietly as she could. She felt like a small child holding their teddy bear for comfort. Layla heard thud. It sounded like it came from the kitchen. Would they search the bedroom? Of course are. How did they even get in? Hadn't Tate locked the doors? She sunk her teeth into the pillow as she heard more thuds..footsteps coming towards her new bedroom. The knelt closer to the floor and tried to block her ears from hearing the sounds coming closer. Her heart sunk. The familiar grey, dusty boots landed in front of her. Wait. What..what was he doing? Wasn't he..? Lacey's heart began to race, it sounded like beating drums to her ears. Memories swarmed her thoughts and she desperately tried to shake them away. Why had he come? With a painfully dry throat and sweaty palms she watched as the boots twisted around now facing the door. He wasn't to going to search the room? The boots began to move towards the door but then they paused. Lacey held her breath. She could only image him analyzing the room as the boots turned towards her again. Lacey was trapped. The fear exploded in her chest. This was it! Her worst nightmare was coming to life. But then, Lacey was stunned with shock. The boots didn't move towards her, they just stayed. Then unexpectedly, a small, ridged piece of white paper gently fluttered to the floor. What could that be? Lacey stared in confusion and shock as the grey boots disappeared out of the room with a slam of the door. Her heart still seemed to be pounding out of her chest as she waited until she felt he had left. Hesitantly she crawled out beneath the bed still clinging on to the pillow. Gulping down her overwhelming nerves she reached for the crumpled paper. With patience she unfolded it. Lacey's heart jumped as she read the words.

" I'll be here, on your back porch waiting. Meet me there at 10:30. Trust me."
