Tate had felt his fingertips go numb as she questioned him on his job. Now he knew the fear was feeling. So why hasn't he let her through with the plan? It was because it still wasn't right. It was his job but this time Tate couldn't do it. He wasn't sure of the punishment he was sure to receive but at that moment he didn't care. He wanted to protect her. He will protect her even if he will have to sacrificed himself. It sounded crazy, Tate had only met Lacey today. He sucked up a breath and looked back into those amazing blue eyes.
"Let's not focus on the past. I'll help you."
He stated.
"What are you gaining helping me?"
She asked with a raised eye brow. Tate realized it must have sounded strange that he was so persisted to help her. Could he tell her the truth. That he was so taken by her that he would put his well being on the line just to help a stranger. It even seemed weird to him. He decided against it. Clearing his throat he motioned towards the door then he began walking towards it. At first she hesitated to follow but she eventually followed.
"Let's worry about getting you to safety first. The rest will come later."
He said and twisted the knob.
"But-"
He interrupted her.
"No buts. Just follow me."
He heard Lacey groan behind him.
"Then where are you taking?"
Tate briefly stopped then rounded the corner entering the long narrow hallway.
"Out of here." He answered and picked his pace up.
