"But it said-"

Tate shook his head, making Lacey stop in her sentence.

"I know what it said. They were lies..It was the only to get the drug to sale."

Lacey huffed suddenly feeling angry. How could he just do that? Lie to all those people?

"You were just going to let-"

Again Tate interrupted. He had to explain himself.

"It's my job. It was the only way. Maybe the drug would work, but of course there was always the chance that it wouldn't. But think..our clients would be all criminals trying to vanish. They wouldn't be regular people. But then..then, you walked in. And that's why I couldn't let you do it."

"How did you know I wasn't a criminal?"

Lacey demanded folding her arms over her chest.

"I could see it..in your eyes..they were terrified.."

Tate shrugged. Still not satisfied, Lacey shook her head.

"Aren't criminals afraid?"

Tate sighed relaxing his shoulders.

"It was different with you. Look- you still didn't explain who you were taking to earlier."

Tate said completely switching the spot light on her. Taking a deep breath Lacey was prepared to tell him, even as crazy how it sounded. She would let Tate off the hook, for now.

"Ryan,..I was talking to Ryan."

She liked her sudden confidence. Her voice didn't even sound unsure. But inside of course she knew how stupid it was for her to trust Ryan. Tate eyebrows arched and his lips formed into a small line.

"Lacey..how could you?"

He inquired at her as if she was insane.

"You don't understand-he's a good guy,.just got mixed up in the wrong thing.."

Lacey explained. A piece of her heart still belonged to him, whether she liked it or not. Tate scoffed in disbelief.

"A good guy?" He mocked.

"You don't know him."

She defended.

"Do I have to? You just told me what kind of guy he was."

Lacey huffed and leaned her back against the chair giving up. He wouldn't understand even if she explained.

"He could help me. I'am going to met him tomorrow night."

She told him. Tate narrowed his eyes but didn't say anything. Then he lifted his hand over his mouth and stifled his yawn.

"You told me what I needed to know. The house is yours for however long you need it."

He said standing up to his full height, and tugging on his tie. Lacey was thankful but she could sense something wasn't right. It was as if he didn't..trust her. Was he mad that she was going to see Ryan? Was it really a stupid idea? Tate ranked a hand through his brown, short hair and untied the tie completely until it hung loosely around his neck.

"I'm going to bed..you should to..."

He mumbled and began to walk towards his bedroom. Halfway Lacey stopped him making him turn around.

"Thanks. For..everything."

She smiled weakly. He nodded in response and continued on.

"Oh..and..Good night."

She added sheepishly. Again he turned around.

"Good night."
