Njal- (Na-jal)

Toothless POV

^Those children, what were they thinking?^ I looked around for the two missing subjects. My mate, not yet knowing how to fly, rode on my back as we used to. Like this I used to never feel closer, but I know now that we could be closer. Worrying for my mate and what I smelled coming from him, I slowly moved away from the group, pretending to be fixated on something in the waves.

Once we were out of earshot of the others, I grunted, "My half, are you alright?"

"Why do you ask, Toothless?"

"My mate, I can smell the smoky smell of brimstone on you."

"Well, I was in the forge today, my half. I did finish making your tail today. Is that smell supposed to mean anything?"

Forgetting that Hiccup had not known this previously, I inwardly growled at myself for being so stupid.

"It means you are breeded, dear."

"What? Really? Can it be?" Even from below him, I could tell he was smiling. This also meant, however, that if my father, no, my sire would be searching for that smell as well. Knowing that titan-wing night fury as well as I did, he would try to kill me and take over as ruler of the nest and kill any offspring I had so there would be no rivalries. Such as the natural way of the world.

Moving back to the group, we continued on towards the cursed island of Berk. I didn't want to ever go back to that place only because it made mine and Hiccup's lives harder. But, for the sake of the young generation, he had to know where they were. Even if that meant fighting to rescue them, he would not stop until they were returned.

Somewhere else

The sawying of a boat woke Alic from his sleep. The sun, high in the sky, shimmered off Star's scales from the opposite side of the boat. Chains shakled her to the floor. A fresh wound on her leg revealed that she had been marked by a crest.  It was in the shape of a fiery fist. Some bars from the other cells had been melted away, presumedly from other dragons. Above, the young boy heard stomping footsteps of large vikings. Whoever these vikings were, they were no friend to dragons.

"Psst, Star." Alic whispered. Star shifted and whimpered in pain, but she didn't respond to Alic's call.

"Pssst, Star." Alic said, slightly louder. When she didn't respond, Alic grabbed a small stone from the floor and threw it through the bars, hitting the little dragon. Star woke with a start and shrank to the back of the cage.

"Star, it's me." Alic whispered. Star looked out and recognized her friend.

"Alic, you are alright."

"I'm okay, what about you? What did they do to your beautiful scales?" Star looked down at the mark on her leg. Remembering what they did when they brought the two aboard, she winced in pain.

"It's alright, Alic. It's just a scratch. No harm done." She lied. What would Shadow-mist say about her maimed scales? Her mother was always proud of her daughter's scales, how pretty they were. These vikings, whoever they were, continually came down here just to gawk at her. As if they've never seen a golden night fury before. It was only a matter of time before they came down again.

"Alic, what do we do? How do we get out of here?"

Alic thought for a moment, but he thought for a moment too long, two large men appeared in the doorway and stood in front of Star's cage.

"What do you think its worth?"

"Tens, maybe hundreds of gold?"

"We could profit more if we just descale it and sell the individual scales. They'd eventually grow back, and once it's used up, then we could sell it whole."

Listening in horror about what they wanted to do with Star, Alic spoke up. "Please, don't hurt her."

The two men turned around and stared at the young boy.

"Boy do you know what this creature is?" The bigger man said.

"What do you mean, of course I know what she is." Confused, Alic looked up at the man. He was very muscled and had dark hair. His eyes, however, showed more than just brainless killing of dragons. This man had much knowledge and wisdom behind his eyes. He carried on his belt a round cylinder that was dragon shaped. It had a crystal top in the dragon's mouth. Down the body were dials with different shapes on them.

"Well then, boy. You know that this beast is a night fury. The most dangerous and rare dragon to ever exist, especially one of this color. What I wanna know is, why were you with this creature?"

"She's not a dangerous beast. You just don't know her!" Alic yelled.

"Boy, if you really think you know that dragon, then clearly you don't know anything. Dragons are dangerous beasts that want nothing more than to kill us vikings, take our food, and destroy our homes to make their nests. They are wild animals that cannot change their nature. I, Njal Grimbourne, have been fighting dragons since I was in diapers. These dangerous creatures that you think you know so well, killed my son and his wife, leaving my grandsons, six and eight with me. For years, they knew nothing else than to fight, kill, and sell dragons."

"I understand your anger and frustration, mister Njal, my parents were also killed by dragons but the dragons were defending their nests because my parents got too close. These beasts, as you call them, have just as many feelings as we do."

"NO NEVER! THESE DANGEROUS BEASTS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN WILD ANIMALS OF HEL! AS FOR NIGHT FURIES, REGARDLESS OF THE COLOR, THEY ARE THE UNHOLY OFFSPRING OF LIGHTNING AND DEATH ITSELF! NIGHT FURIES ARE THE WORST KIND OF DRAGON!!" Njal bellowed.

In fear, Alic shrunk to the back of the cage while Njal Grimbourne cackled at the boy's fear.

"Scale the dragon." He commanded. Before the second viking could move, the boat rocked violently as loud booms came from outside.

"Dragon attack!" Someone yelled from above. The two burly vikings left and ran up the stairs, swords drawn. Battle calls and screams of pain came from the upper level. Then, a shadow covered the entrance.

"Are you two alright?"
