Snotlout marched through the village with the twins, as Fishlegs was nowhere to be found. This wasn't entirely abnormal as he never liked fighting anyway. He mostly spent his days reading from the Book of Dragons and studying them. This way, the villagers would know how to take down every dragon that ever came to the island. Strangely, he started on the gronkle page, one of the last pages in the book.

The three vikings marched onward past the sheep farms, past the vegetable farms, and past each dwelling, ensuring that no dragon was within the area of the village. When they moved through the trees of the forest, dark shadows seemed to shoot past them, speeding faster than their eyes could track. Tuffnut, the male twin, spoke first, "Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but does it seem like we're being watched? I got this tingle up my spine."

"You mutton-head," Ruffnut, the female twin said, "Of course we're being watched. Loki is always watching us."

"I don't mean Loki, Ruff. Something else is out there."

"Would you two shut up? I'm trying to listen for dragons." Snotout whispered, turning to the two arguing twins.

"Uh, you mean like that?" Tuffnut said, pointing into the branches above.

Above the three vikings, two dark shadows stood over them. They jumped down and surrounded the three with spread wings. Tuffnut let out a blood-curdling, and frankly girlish, scream. Snotlout dropped his axe in terror at what he was looking at. Two individuals stood on either side of him, both very human-like but also dragon-like. They both had wings, one coming from one's back and the other coming from its arms. They both had scales, one shiny reddish-brown, one a shiny dark teal blue color.

As Snotlout stood staring at the two creatures, they growled and chortled at each other, bits were human words.

"Growl growl... viking... growl chortle growl"

Growl growl... friends... growl"

It seemed like the two were talking. Then, the black one turned to Snotlout while the teal one turned to the twins. They began to speak.

"Snotlout, is that you?" The black one growled.

"H-how do you know my name?" Snotlout stuttered.

"Have I really changed so much that my family can't recognize me?" It said.

Snotlout got very confused, what was this creature talking about? Then he saw it, the reddish-brown hair matching with the scales, the thin tiny body.

"H-hiccup?" Snotlout whispered.

"It is me, my friend, this is Astrid." Hiccup said, pointing at the other creature talking with the twins.

"That's, Astrid?" Snotlout asked.

"Well hello to you too, Snotface." Astrid grumbled.

"What in Thor's great name happened to you two, you look hideous! I thought you were both dead." Snotlout yelled.

"Keep it down, Snotlout. We look this way because of our mating vow."

Before Snotlout could respond, two dragons appeared from the cliffside of the forest. Seeing the dark scales of the night fury and the blue scales of the deadly nadder, Snotlout saw red. He grabbed his axe and swung it at the two dragons while yelling a battle cry.

"Snotlout no!" The two half-dragon humans yelled as they stretched out to stop the muscled viking. Each one holding an arm, the night fury prepared to fire a shot.

"Toothless, no. He doesn't know us yet." Hiccup said. The night fury swallowed his blast and waited for orders.

"Hiccup if you don't let me go now, I swear I'll kill you too."

"Growl growl growl." Toothless growled.

"Hiccup what did he say?" Snotlout asked, his voice shaking in fear.

"Something about ripping you apart if you do, I'm not repeating the whole thing."

"Okay, no more needs said." Snotlout squeaked.

"Now where are the twins?" Hiccup said, turning around. Where the twins originally were, was an empty spot with just scuffed up grass.

"Oh no..." Astrid whispered.
"We need to leave now." Hiccup said, dropping Snotlout's arm. He mounted Toothless.

"But what about the children, we still have to find them." Astrid said.

"It's clear they're not here, we need to go."

"Yes, my queen."

"Wait." Snotlout yelled. "Queen?"

"Yes, Hiccup is now queen of our nest." Astrid explained. They turned to leave.

"Wait, I-I want to know more." Hiccup stretched out his hand.

"Then come with us." Snotlout hesitated, he heard the other villagers through the trees, the twins must have warned the vikings. Snotlout stepped back.

"Can you meet me tonight, when the moon is high? I'm not ready for that step yet, but I want to know more, why you left us."

Hiccup understood, "Moon high then." With that, the four flew off, away from the island of Berk.

Snotlout met the villagers on the way back, scratching his arm on a branch to make them think he fought off a dragon. He told them that two dragons showed up but he fought them off. As Gothi patched him up, he thought about what Hiccup had said.

^Did he really mate with a dragon? Did Astrid really choose a dragon over a viking? No, there's no way she willingly did that. She must be under the influence, like that boy. Hiccup has to be too.^ And Snotlout was going to meet them at moon high.

^What am I doing, I can't kill Hiccup, why did I say I wanted to know more? Are those dragons getting to my head too? What if I was wrong this whole time? What if it wasn't the dragons? Could those two really love dragons so much that they would leave their own kind? Was their love that strong?^

Snotlout walked to his house, his father yelled at him that he didn't manage to kill the dragons and that he was the worst Jorgenson to live. He became numb to his father's criticisms as the years went on. He plopped on his bed and looked up at the roof

He started mumbling to himself, "What is true love? Is that really it?" Snotlout rested until nightfall and went out alone into the woods to meet the dragon-human hybrids.
