The Storm

As the days grew shorter with the approaching winter, Logi and Queen Hiccup worked side by side. Hiccup began teaching her the basics of blacksmithing. How hard to hammer the blade, how long to hold the metal in the fire, and so on. The dragons and humans of The Nest also worked side by side, to prepare for the cold days to come. Furs were gathered. Abygail made clothes for the humans so they would be warm through the long nights.

Out in the flower field, Logi and Firefreeze practiced her dragonese. Artemis helping with the translation. Though the words were still garbled, Logi was making progress. Simple questions were met with short and simple answers. The group, so focused on teaching and learning, didn't see the oncoming black clouds. Before they knew it, the sun had been covered and a strong wind started to blow. The first crack of thunder rang through the air, so loud that the gods above were sure to have ringing ears.

"Hurry, we must return!" Artemis yelled over the howling wind and thunder. The humans jumped onto the backs of their dragons and ran towards the half built village.

Logi quietly whimpered on the back of Firefreeze. She knew what this was. It's how it started in her village and the other inhabited islands, with a storm. Her bad luck was about to strike again. Everyone had gathered in the throne room. The looming storm had everyone on edge. Chusi was comforting Tyr, who was afraid of the loud thunder. Shadow-Mist and her two daughters were curled up away from the door to the outside. Alic, as always, beside Star, helping her to cope with the noise. Fire-could and Boulder sat a small distance away, discussing how to reinforce the village. Phoenix sitting silently next to them. Abygail and Otem were at the door, helping to usher others inside. Fishlegs and Meatlug walked inside just as rain started pouring down. The king and queen sat on their thrones. Valka and Cloudjumper sitting beside them. Their two little hatchlings sleeping around the three royal eggs. Talia and shimmer standing over them, keeping them clean and turned. As the doors finally shut, King Toothless roared for everyone to quiet.

"Now that I have everyone's attention, what say we fortify the village for the storm. Fire-cloud, Boulder, do you have any ideas? It seems this is going to be a bad storm and I want my best builders on it."

"Of course, your majesty. I suggest we add a wave-break so that the island won't be flooded. We could take logs and surround the island-"

"Fire-cloud, I said that will take too long." Boulder growled.

"Well, what's your plan then, Boulder? My builders need to be in agreement." King Toothless said.

"We need to evacuate to higher ground, after the storm is over, then we can put up the wave break."

"And let our hard work on the village be washed away? I won't let that happen!" Fire-cloud growled.

As the others started to argue back and forth. Logi crouched down, covering her ears. Firefreeze shielding her from the eyes of the others.

^Why do the gods hate me so?^ She thought. Cracks of thunder rang through the air. The doors flung open from the wind. Otem and Orion shoved the doors shut again and sat in front of them to ensure they didn't burst open again. Logi's panic grew as it got louder in the throne room, humans and dragons alike, arguing about the storm. Firefreeze pressed closer against her. The chaos made Logi shake with fear. Her memories of others screaming crowded her thoughts as well as the yelling and roaring inside the throne room. She couldn't take it anymore, she bolted up and shoved herself through the blocked doors and out into the storm, Firefreeze close behind her for her protection. She jumped onto the dragon's back and flew into the storm. Hoping to take her bad luck with her, she turned to look at The Nest.

"I'm sorry." she cried. She turned around after no longer being able to see through the rain and fog.

^I should have left once I saw people here^ She thought.

"I'm here, Logi." Firefreeze cooed. That simple sentence made Logi burst into tears. The small amount of dragonese she was able to learn was enough to bring the girl and dragon closer together and they grew farther and farther from the island they had hoped they could call home.
