Kairo's POV (Zephyr's Dad):
"Speak." I coldly said and she inhaled some air before speaking.
When I looked at her, I saw a stranger in her eyes where I had once seen a soulmate.
"I'm sorry... I couldn't fight for us... I regret it all and I've been blaming myself for these past few years. I'm really sorry..." She said while crying and I looked away to stop my tears from falling.
"You cheated on me." I coldly said at lumakas ang pag-iyak niya.
"I know... I'm sorry. I was drugged that night and I ended up in his room... my mom drugged me. I'm sorry I hurt you. I never intended to hurt you." Sabi niya at natigilan naman ako at napatingin sakanya and I felt a sting in my chest when I saw her face full of tears. I don't like seeing her cry, but it's not my job anymore to wipe her tears away.
So, all these years, I thought that she really cheated on me, but she was... drugged? by her own mother. I can't imagine the pain she had to go through all these years.
"I couldn't do anything... I'm really sorry I. I wish I would've done anything. I'm sorry I couldn't fight for us." She said and I can't control my tears anymore.
She told me everything, and she begged her parents every day to approve our relationship. She tried to fight for us, and that's enough for me; at the very least, I know she gave it her all, and that the world is simply too cruel for us and the love we shared back then.
"I'm sorry... you had to go through all of that alone." I said while tears are streaming down my face.
"I was never alone, Kairo. He was there for me through all the times I was on the edge of giving up. He hugged me and stayed with me until now." She said and forced a smile.
"I'm glad. I'm sorry, dahil all these years galit na galit ako sa'yo sa mga bagay na hindi mo naman kasalanan." I said and she nodded and smiled. But this time, it was a genuine smile.
"You don't have to say sorry. Wala kang kasalanan... wala tayong kasalanan. At nagmahalan lang tayo pero... sadyang hindi lang talaga tayo nakatadhana." She said and I sighed.
"Thank you... for everything. You did so great and you fighting for us is worth it." My lips formed into a smile.
"How about you? How are you?" She asked and smiled.
I feel so comfortable and at peace now and it feels like the pain from the past has disappeared now and we can now finally breath and live without pain after years of being in pain and questioning every event that had happened in the past years.
"I'm doing great." I said and she smiled widely and slowly nodded.
"I know. I can see. I'm proud of you for all the things you've achieved these past few years. You did a great job." She said. It feel so good hearing it from her.
"Well, what can I say? Aside from being handsome, I'm a great business man and a great father." I said and she laughed. Hearing her laugh still makes me feel happy too.
We talked a little bit and caught ourselves laughing together, and it feels so good to have this closure with her after decades of being in pain because of the love we once shared. It's the same intensity, and I remember our love as being very warm and peaceful because we only cared about each other, ignored everyone else, and did everything together without regard for the people around us.
"My daughter, Viola, is ending another school year. She's graduating there tomorrow." She said and I smiled.
"Yeah, I heard she's graduating with high honors. Your other daughter, Braelynn? She also graduated there, right?" I said and she chuckled.
"Yeah, they're both stubborn." She said and I laughed.
"Your daughter Braelynn, she looks just like you when I saw her. She's like your carbon copy and she was also a big headache back then." I joked and she laughed and shook her head.
"I don't know who they take after to they're both stubborn and hard headed." She said.
"They take after you." I said and she sighed and laughed.
"Naalala ko nga noong unang beses tayo nagkita sa tagaytay nag cutting pa'ko no'n para lang makapunta doon kasi sobrang naiistress ako sa dami ng gawain." Sabi niya at natawa naman ako ng malakas.
"I remember, sinumbong pa nga kita noon diba? Nagpaunahan tayo makabalik ng University para masumbong ang isa't isa and that's my first time cutting classes." I said and shook my head.
"Maduga ka kasi! Na suspend pa'ko no'n! Pero okay lang pareho naman tayong na suspend." Pag kwento niya at sabay kaming natawa.
Reminiscing about the past makes me feel as if I'm traveling back in time. This is the sensation I've been seeking for several years. It feels great to talk to her again.
"How are you and Rian? I talked to her last month to convince you to talk to me. She's a really nice woman, and I want to be close to her." She said and I smiled.
"Yeah, she's the nicest and most wonderful woman I've ever met. I'm so lucky to have her." I said and Lynn smiled.
"Aww! Wait, teka! Kinikilig ako." Sabi niya at natawa naman ako at napa iling.
"'Wag kang kiligin ako lang 'to." Sabi ko at natawa naman siya ng malakas.
"Gago! Ang hangin mo pa din akala ko pa naman 'di kana pinaglihi sa super typhoon." Sabi niya at natawa naman ako ng malakas.
"At masungit kapa din kahit siguro tigre matatakot sa'yo." Biro ko at mas lalo naman siyang natawa.
Biglang nag ring ang phone niya kaya agad niya itong sumagot at tumayo muna at pumunta ng restroom at pagkabalik niya ay inayos na niya ang mga gamit niya. "I'm sorry! I have to go now it's nice talking to you again! Marcus is already here na kasi to pick me up." Nagmamadali na sabi niya at ngumiti naman ako at tumango.
"Thank you also. I also have to go now and I had fun today." I said while picking up my things. Kailangan ko pa pala sunduin ang asawa ko sa mall dahil kasama niya ang mom ko at ang mama niya.
Nang makita ako ni Rian ay agad siyang tumakbo papunta saakin at agad ko naman siyang hinalikan sa labi. "Hello, sorry I'm late. Did you have fun today?" I said and she nodded and smiled.
"Yes! How about you? Did you guys talk? How is it? How are you?" She said.
"I'm feeling better now and I'll tell you everything when we got home." I said and gave her a peck on the lips.
Lumapit saakin ang mother ni Rian at hinalikan ako sa pisngi at si mom. "We had so much fun with your wife today thanks for letting us borrow her today." My mom said and I chuckled.
Even though we did not end up together, our love will live on in this world and in our hearts as a painful and happy memory of what was once 'us.'
Lynn's POV (Brae's Mom):
"Hello, love. I'm sorry I'm late. I just got off of a meeting. Did everything go well? What happened?" He asked and I hugged him tight and smiled.
"Everything went well. I'll tell you everything when we get home. I love you, Marcus." I said and he hugged me back.
"I love you too, Lynn. I could never ask for more. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. You're the best wife and best mother." He said and kissed the top of my head.
Finally, after decades, I feel liberated and healed from the pain I've been carrying for so long. I'm grateful to Kairo because he was the first person to show me what love was, and I will always remember his love for me, and our past will live on as memories in this world, and 'us' will never be forgotten. It will always be a part of me.
