Chapter 25

Braelynn's POV:

Nagising ako nang madaling araw dahil dinatnan ako ng buwan ng dalaw ko kaya agad akong tumakbo sa bathroom at pagkatapos ay lumabas ako ng kwarto para kumuha ng pagkain sa pantry.

Nandito ako ngayon sa bahay namin dahil gusto ni mom na dito muna daw ako hanggang sa maka-alis si Viola papuntang Vegas at pumayag naman ako kasi baka kailangan nila ng moral support kasi aalis na ang bunso nila at sa ibang bansa muna maninirahan hanggang sa makapagtapos.

Habang nasa hallway ay tumigil ako sa paglalakad nang makarinig ako nang ingay mula sa guest room kung saan natutulog ang grandparents ko at onti-onti akong lumapit sa pintuan na nakabukas ng kaunti at nakita ko si mom na kausap si grandma at pilit na nagsasalita si grandma.

"I... I-I'm sorry... for... e-everything, Lynn." Grandma said and mom shook her head; trying to ignore what grandma is saying.

"Ma, just eat. You told me you're hungry, right? Eat ma. We'll talk tomorrow." Mom said and I saw tears sreaming down her cheeks and grandma held her hand weakly.

"I-I regret... everything. Forgive... me." Grandma said and her tears started falling.

"Ma, past is past. I already forgive you." Mom said and still trying to feed grandma her food.

"N-no... I-I ruined... everything...I...ruined your life." Grandma weakly said and mom shook her head.

"You didn't, ma. I turned out just fine and I thank you for everything." Mom said and wiped her tears.

Grandma's lips formed into a smile. "I... It's time... I'm s-sorry... I-love you.. my d-daughter. Y-you're my... w-whole life." Grandma said and I held my hand in shock when she started closing her eyes slowly and mom cried loudly.

Mom dropped the bowl she was holding and hugged Grandma while sobbing. She tried to wake her up but she wasn't waking up and I also saw Grandpa at the side of the bed crying and my chest felt so heavy and I froze. I don't know what to do.

"Ma! Wake up! No..." Mom said while sobbing and I quickly ran to wake up everyone.

Dad quickly ran to the guest room and he hugged mom while mom was still crying and on her knees on the floor with her hands covering her face and dad was hugging her. "Shush... I'm here..." I heard dad said.

I looked at Viola and I saw her tearing up so I hugged her and caressed her back. "G-grandma is... gone..." She started sobbing so I hugged her tighter.

"I know... we'll get through this together." I said and she cried on my shoulder.

The next day, mom was still crying and she wouldn't eat. Dad keeps comforting her and I can see from dad's eyes that he's hurting too, but he doesn't want to show it. And dad was the one who did everything because mom didn't have the energy to.

"I'm sorry..." Zephyr said and hugged me and he caressed my back.

"I don't know what to say and my chest feels heavy. Can we go somewhere else?" I said and he nodded.

We went to a hill, and I can see everything from here, and the wind makes me feel better. I closed my eyes and hugged myself to feel the cold breeze of the wind when I felt a warm body hugging me from the back.

"Everything will be alright. I love you." He said and I touched his cheek from behind and looked at him and forced a smile.

"Grandma was mean to everyone, and everyone also hated her, even I. But now that she's gone, my chest feels heavy and my heart stings whenever I see my mother and sister mourning for her." I said.

"It's always hard to say goodbye to a family member, even if you hate them, because they also become a part of you." He said and I sighed.

"You're right. I remember when mom and dad couldn't go to my recognition when I was in 4th grade and grandma showed up instead. I thought it was going to be a bad day, but I was wrong. I had the best day of my life. Me and grandma had a lot of fun." I said and I can feel him smiling.

"I'm always here for you. You can cry all you want, and I know your grandma is in a safe place now and she will always look out for you and your family." He said and gave me a peck on the lips.

Nagulat ako nang may bigla siyang pinakita saakin na picture na nakalagay sa wallet niya at kumunot naman ang noo ko. "Bakit may picture ako sa wallet mo?" Takang tanong ko at natawa naman siya.

"This is the picture that Jennu took when we were still in college and I didn't expect you to be in the background and since then you caught my attention and I loved your violet hair. I tried finding you but I couldn't not until I saw you on CDC that night and that's when I realized that it was you." Sabi niya at namangha naman ako.

"Wow, were really meant to be." Sabi ko.

Days have passed and it's time for Grandma's burial. Mom was still crying and it hurts seeing her like this, but we already convinced her to eat because she hasn't eaten anything for the past few days and she just keeps crying.

It was time for mom's speech and everyone's attention is in her and she inhaled some air before speaking and wiped her tears. "My mom and I fought a lot back then. I don't want to talk about the bad things. My mom was a great grandmother to my daughters and I felt jealous seeing them together because I didn't experience those things with her, but she was the best and even though she was the cause of my sufferings back then, I adored her. She said in her last words that she's very sorry that she ruined my life. I love my mom so much. Even though she's not the best mom to me, at least she showed unconditional love for my daughters, and that's enough. Mom said and she looked at me and I smiled because she tried so hard not to cry.

It was time for Viola's speech and she smiled before speaking. "I don't really know what to say because my grandma and I had a love-hate relationship, but I remember the first time that I ran away from home. I went to grandma's house and I told her everything and she comforted me. We had a great time together. When Dad called, he told grandma to take me home but she refused because she thought that mom and dad were treating me badly, which is obviously not the case. I was just dramatic. " Viola laughed. But yeah, I love Grandma and now that she's gone, our memories will stay with me forever. Farewell, grandma." She said and touched the coffin.

When it was my turn to speak, I simply thanked Grandma for everything and hoped she was happy wherever she is right now. I don't really know what to say because it felt like my mind was blank and my chest was heavy.

After the burial, mom stopped crying, and when I went to their room, she was on the balcony, sitting in a chair and looking far away, and when she saw me she smiled.

"I'm sorry...for everything." She suddenly said and I frowned.

"For what mom?" I asked and she held my hand and smiled.

"It's my fault that me and your dad always argue, and I didn't notice that it was affecting you both, so I was blaming you guys for your behavior that has been caused by me. I'm sorry..." She said and I shook my head.

"It's fine, mom. You don't have to say sorry because you guys are the best parents to me and Viola, and you guys showed us both unconditional and fair love. And we turned out fine, and look at Viola now. She's trying her best to change and studying hard because you both are her inspiration." I said and she hugged me.

"I'm so thankful that I had a daughter like you and Viola. Me and your dad will always be proud of you both and we will always support you both." She said.

"You're the best mom. You deserve the whole world." I said.
