Chapter Thirty: The Beginning of the End

The next morning, i woke up and tried to be normal. But everything felt different. Being a vampire, and having to move out of my childhood home and town. It was far from normal.

I was putting all of my boxes of things into the moving van. Nancy was also, while mum, Holly, Mike and my dad were inside sorting final things.

"Can you believe it? Moving out of Hawkins. I thought we'd stay here forever." I said.

"So did i." Nancy smiled, but still looked upset by it all.

"Well, i guess we need to move on. A fresh start. We won't be cursed anymore. Hopefully.." I said. "Eddie's place got completely torn in half."

"Well there was a gate there. How are you and Eddie anyway? Are you like a thing now?"

"What?! No!"

"That is such a lie." Mike came walking out.

"Okay fine- maybe we are. But why does it matter? Where's El?"

"She's on her way here with Jonathan, Will and some other dude."

"We've let them stay with us until all of this over. They can't just go back to California with everything going on." Nancy added.

"Oh, okay. Is the place gonna be big enough?"

"It better be." Mike said.

"If not, we'll make it work." Nancy said.

All so sudden, roaring music was heard getting closer and closer. It wasn't good music either, it was some weird one you'd hear at camp. Pass the Dutchie.

'Give me the music make me jump and prance!' Was heard, before the music stopped and the surfer boy pizza van was here. Holding Eleven, Will, Jonathan and his friend Argyle.

"Mike!"El came over and hugged him.

"Thanks for letting us stay." Jonathan said to Nancy, kissing her cheek.

"Hey Will, how have you been?" I asked, walking over to Will. He looked upset, watching Mike and Eleven together. I looked over.

"Oh you know. I've been better. It's just annoying not being able to go back.."

"Well we can have lots of fun playing D&D together at the new place. And i have someone i think you'd like to meet."

"Really?"

"Yes, but you can meet him later. For now let's just get going. Yeah?" I said, he still had his eye on Mike and El. "Will, it's okay. She's happy, and she'd want you to be. Forget about her,"

"No it's- it's not- never mind. Your're probably right."

"Is everyone ready to go?" My mum came walking outside along with Holly and my dad.

"I'm gonna miss this place." I said.

"Yeah, me too." Mike and Nancy answered.

"We'll probably be allowed back one the town is okay. Alright?" Mum said.

I doubt it, there was really no way the town could get fixed.

Dark clouds started forming above us. It was like a storm was coming. A bad one. I heard a vehicle arrive, and saw Eddie get out of his van. He looked worried.

"Eddie? What are you doing here?"

"Half of the town is dying- Like the plants- everything is turning grey. Like the upside down." He said fastly.

"What?" I questioned.

"Look.." Eleven said, looking up.

A bunch of strange dust particles of some sort, exactly like the upside down ones, started falling down. The trees and grass, all the flowers, they were all dying. All going grey and brown just like Eddie described.

Was the world turning into the upside down?

"What on earth is going on..." I muttered under my breath.

Steve and Robin pulled up, Dustin and Lucas were in the back of the car. Steve got out of the car and leaned his arm on the opened door.

"Does anyone know what on earth is happening?!" Dustin called out.

"I don't know. No one does." Mike said.

"Is it from the upside down?" Lucas asked. "Is Max gonna be okay?"

"Upside down? What is the upside down?" My mum asked my dad, who was clueless.

"I think it is from the upside down. But there is nothing i can do at the moment." Eleven said.

"How is this from the upside down, if we killed Vecna?" Nancy asked.

"Technically, we don't know for sure that he's dead. His body was gone when we checked." Robin said.

"The chimes, the clock chimed four times and then this happened to mark the end- maybe vecna wasn't finished." Nancy said.

"Well there's nothing we can do right now. We just need to try to forget." Steve said.

"Try to forget?! Seriously Steve?" I said. "Hawkins is being taken over by the other world, and who knows maybe the whole of America is next."

"Wait wait wait.. Sam open your mouth." Nancy said confused.

"What?! No... that's weird."

"Your teeth-"

"We found some Halloween costumes whilst going through everything and decided to put some fake fangs in! See i have them too!" Eddie lied.

Pretty decent lie to be fair. I wouldn't of came up with an excuse as good as that.

"Huh. Sounds believable." Nancy sighed.

We all looked behind us and looked at what Hawkins had become. It was all overtaken by grey. I took the moment to reflect on all my memories in this place. I was for sure going to miss it.

Yeah, maybe El can save it at some point. We aren't sure how yet, but if she was to, it wouldn't hit the same.

I started to think about when i would go and play D&D round Eddie's trailer, at the school and with everyone else. I smiled when i thought about Eddie standing on the table shouting at Jason.

Speaking of Jason, he never found Eddie. I wonder if he found anyone else?

"Hey did anyone know what happened with Jason? Wasn't he hunting us or something?"

"He's dead. Tried to kill me. Thought i had something to do with Max being taken by vecna. He also knew i lied and worked with you all to keep Eddie safe. But uh yeah." Lucas answered.

"Oh. Okay."

Relief left my body. Not because he had died, but because Eddie no longer had him to worry about also. The police had let it go, so Eddie was free now.

"I mean we could always watch the movie at the cinema in the new town." Eddie smiled, placing his arm around my shoulder. I leaned my head on his shoulder.

"Yeah. I'd like that."

Everyone was probably going to worry about Hawkins and what was happening to Hawkins. Eddie and I would worry too, but this was out of our control this time. So we were going to make the most of it and go see the movie before it was too late and vecna had struck the whole of America.

"Nance, do you think they really put a Halloween costume piece on?" Robin asked Nancy.

"Of course they didn't. Those two are- i guess you could say, vampires. But no one needs to know that. I mean, it makes sense. They got bitten by bats and came back to life." Nancy smiled.

That night, Eddie and I took a nice walk in the dark. The new place we were evacuated to was far from Hawkins so it wasn't being taken over.

We could finally relax. We didn't have to worry about him getting caught, everything was fine. For us, anyway. Apart from being vampires, everything was great.

We knew we'd have to help the other out eventually, because everyone knew this wasn't over.

This was only the beginning of the end.
