Atsumu paid Kuroo's question no mind as he walked through the opening and made his way down the corridor.

They were moving towards the central point of the prison, where the stairwell to the roof was located.

They were passing through a corridor filled with offices on either side when suddenly the warden's office door burst open, revealing the warden who was holding a cloth over his nose.

Atsumu crouched down low and spun around in one motion, knocking Kuroo to the ground right as a bullet from the warden's gun sailed over their heads.

The warden fired again, but this time his bullet was deflected by Atsumu who had pulled out one of his daggers just in time to stop the bullet from hitting Kuroo.

Atsumu then flicked the dagger across the corridor, right into the warden's knee.

The warden screamed and crumpled to the floor, dropping his gun, which slid across the tiles just out of his reach.

The warden scrambled towards his gun, but wailed in pain when Atsumu's boot landed on his knuckles and the gun was kicked away.

Atsumu stared down at the warden who was slowly losing consciousness from the halothane vapour.

The warden's eyes were wide and fearful, and he struggled to keep them open through the pain and halothane vapour as Atsumu crouched down over him.

Atsumu pulled another dagger from his belt and twisted it between his fingers.

"Y'know, if ya'd jus' stayed in yer office, maybe I would have spared yer life..." Atsumu said, "But now ya've seen me... An' I can't have any witnesses, now, can I?"

Then, as quick as a flash, Atsumu leaned down and slashed the dagger across the warden's throat, killing him instantly.

Atsumu took his foot off the warden's hand and pulled the dagger out from his knee before flicking the blood across the ground in a wide arc and sheathing his daggers again.

He walked over to Kuroo, who was still on the ground, frozen in place.

Atsumu offered him a hand, "C'mon, if yer gonna work on our team, yer gonna hafta get used to how we do things," he said.

Kuroo gulped but nodded and took Atsumu's hand.

Atsumu pulled Kuroo up from the floor and Suna's voice crackled through the communicator, "Geez, Vulpes, you're going to scare the shit out of the newbie before he's even left the prison," Suna jeered.

Komori snickered, "Don't worry, Kuroo, he's just a bit scary on missions."

Kuroo sighed, "'A bit'? Seems like an understatement..." He muttered in response.

They made it to the stairs and ran the single-flight climb to the roof where Akagi and Komori were waiting.

They quickly made their way across the roof and jumped over to the wall, where they used the dagger ladder to climb down.

Atsumu climbed down last, collecting his daggers on his way down the wall.

They made the kilometer-long journey to the van where Suna was waiting, and Komori took the driver's seat.

They drove down the road in the direction of their base.

Atsumu didn't take his mask off once they got to the van, simply because he was still a bit timid of showing people his face, plus, they'd need that leverage later.

Kuroo had to say something though.

"Do you ever take your mask off?" He asked.

Atsumu sighed, "Yes, how d'ya think I'd eat?"

Kuroo shrugged, "I don't know, maybe there's a tiny trap door that opened, or something?" He said.

"Y'know, I'm startin' to think that ya'd look a lot better if ya had a dagger sittin' in yer right eye..." Atsumu said in warning.

Kuroo put his hands up in surrender, "Okay! Okay! I got it..."

Atsumu sighed and turned to look out of the window.

He was on edge. They'd completed their mission relatively smoothly without being caught, but he was worried.

Kiyoomi had been really nervous that morning about the mission, and Atsumu knew better than to assume that the mafia leader would be distracted from his mission, but he couldn't help but worry.

That's when Osamu's voice crackled through his communication device, "Yo, Tsumu, ya there?" He asked.

Atsumu scowled, "How many times do I hafta tell ya to not use my given name on missions??" He snapped.

"Geez, I was jus' checkin' if ya were dead or not," Osamu said defensively.

"Mhm, an' when have I ever come back from a mission injured? Much less dead?" Atsumu asked rhetorically.

"Right, untouchable assassin, got it," Osamu teased before he chuckled, "How'd the mission go?"

Atsumu hummed, "Got in an' out with Kuroo without any alarms goin' off, so I'd say it went well," he answered, "An' yers?"

Osamu chuckled, "Went without a hitch," he answered.

Atsumu smiled, but it quickly vanished as he lowered his voice, "How's Omi?" He asked.

Osamu smiled, knowing the question was coming, "He's fine, Tsu- Vulpes," he replied.

Atsumu let out a breath of relief before he smiled, "Thanks, Samu," he said and clicked off his communicator.

"Partner?"

Atsumu sighed, he'd nearly forgotten Kuroo was next to him, "Brother," he answered.

Kuroo raised his eyebrows in surprise, "So, you're single?" He asked.

Atsumu snorted, "Oh, no," he answered simply, "An' ya? Got a partner?"

Kuroo sighed, "In the past..." He said.

Atsumu furrowed his eyebrows, "What happened?"

"He went missing..." Kuroo answered quietly.

Atsumu inhaled sharply, he knew a thing or two about going missing, "When?" He asked.

Kuroo stared out of the window, "Six months ago, right before I got caught..." He replied, a longing gleam in his eye.

Kuroo huffed a short half-hearted laugh, "I'll find him one day, I'm not giving up until I do," he declared.

Atsumu hummed in surprise, "I think I misjudged ya, Kuroo," he said, "You're not as annoyin' as I thought."

Kuroo snorted, "Well, Vulpes, you're not as scary as I thought," he said.

Atsumu chuckled lightly, "Thanks, I guess," he replied.

Atsumu exhaled deeply and closed his eyes, "Hey, Kagi?" He called.

"Yeah?" Akagi answered, turning yo look at Atsumu from the passenger seat.

"Wake me up when we get to base," Atsumu said, and Akagi nodded, allowing Atsumu to let his exhaustion take over and slip into sweet unconsciousness.
