Loyalties Must Be Proven

Kuroo awoke in a dark room, tied to a chair with someone else tied to another chair behind him.

The guy behind him seemed to be awake as well, so Kuroo decided to try his luck in talking to him.

"Hey, do you know where we are?" He asked.

The guy behind him grunted, "No idea, dude," he said, "I was with Sakusa Kiyoomi-"

"Sakusa Kiyoomi? I was just recruited by him," Kuroo said quickly, cutting him off.

"Huh... Me too," the guy said, "You think this is some sort of initiation?" He asked thoughtfully.

Before Kuroo could reply, the lights suddenly turned on and someone walked into the room, though he stayed in the shadows.

A deep, gruff voice spoke, "I guess you could say that."

A tall man stepped into the light and Kuroo recognized him immediately, "Sakusa Kiyoomi..." He murmured.

"That's correct," Kiyoomi confirmed, "It's good to meet you in person, Kuroo Tetsurou... Behind you is Bokuto Koutarou, our other new member," he informed.

"Hey, man, no disrespect, but why are we tied up?" Bokuto asked.

Kiyoomi chuckled, "Don't worry, it's just a test..." He said vaguely.

"What do you mean 'a test'?" Kuroo asked.

Kiyoomi grinned, "A test of your loyalty," he explained.

Suddenly, another person stepped out of the shadows, his build slender and his movements completely silent.

Neither Bokuto nor Kuroo had noticed that he was in the room.

"Holy shit," Bokuto exclaimed, "Where the hell did you come from?"

Kuroo gulped, he recognized the pearly-white eye sockets of Vulpes' mask, "Vulpes..." He murmured, much calmer than he felt.

He wondered if Vulpes was finally going to kill him for being too annoying.

Bokuto froze, hearing Kuroo's words, "Vulpes...?" He asked carefully.

Kiyoomi chuckled, "Correct, Koutarou," he confirmed, "Meet Vulpes, the most dangerous assassin in the city," he introduced, "He's here to make sure you don't step out of line."

Bokuto gaped at Kiyoomi, though he stayed silent.

Vulpes slowly walked over to stand at Kiyoomi's side, a sharp kunai dagger in his hand.

Kuroo gritted his teeth, "So what do we have to do for this test of loyalty?" He asked.

Kiyoomi pursed his lips, "Not much... I just need you to swear that you will never betray us," he said.

"That's all?" Bokuto asked, "What if we lie? How would you be able to tell?"

"Well, there's more, but that will be explained after you swear your loyalty," Kiyoomi answered with a shrug.

Kuroo bit his lip, "I swear," he said, knowing that it was better than whatever painful death Vulpes had planned for him.

"One down, one to go," Kiyoomi jeered.

Bokuto was quiet for a while before deciding that it was better than prison, "Me too," he said.

Kiyoomi smiled grimly, "Very well, gentlemen," he said, "Vulpes, untie them," he directed.

Vulpes nodded and moved towards them, his movements eerily silent as he quickly cut their binds with the dagger he was holding.

Kuroo and Bokuto stood up to face Kiyoomi while Vulpes returned to his side, "Now, for the final part... Insurance."

Neither Kuroo nor Bokuto liked how Kiyoomi emphasized the word 'insurance', and they especially didn't like the mischievous grin on Kiyoomi's face, "Vulpes..."

Kuroo and Bokuto's eyes moved to Vulpes, who had pulled down his hood revealing fluffy platinum blonde hair.

They watched in confusion as Vulpes unclipped his mask and pulled it away from his face, allowing his blank honey-brown eyes and soft features to fall into view.

Bokuto's eyes widened, "So, you aren't a demon!" He exclaimed.

Vulpes rolled his eyes, "No shit."

Kuroo was confused, "Wait, why would you reveal your identity?" He asked.

Vulpes hummed, "Simple... As Kiyoomi mentioned, I am the most dangerous assassin in the city, an' that comes with the side effect of always havin' cops tryna arrest me," he said.

"So why show us who you are? Doesn't that pose a threat to you?" Kuroo asked again, still confused.

Kiyoomi chuckled, "Exactly," he said, "Vulpes can't have traitors knowing his identity, now, can he? All of his work concealing his identity down the drain... A bit of a useless effort, don't you think?" He said, wrapping an arm around Vulpes' waist and grinning down at him, "Right, Vulpes?"

Vulpes smiled, "Of course... An' anyone I don't want knowin' my identity will earn a dagger through their teeth..." He countered playfully.

Kiyoomi smirked, "That's correct, so... Tetsurou and Koutarou... If you even think about betraying us, well... You'll have to deal with the fox," he warned.

Kuroo and Bokuto gulped, they could hear the underlying tone of, "If you betray us, you're dead," loud and clear.

Vulpes smiled sweetly, "The name's Miya Atsumu, by the way, jus' thought ya might wanna know since we're gonna be teammates from now on," he said.

Atsumu smiled sweetly, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.

Kiyoomi chuckled as he gazed down at Atsumu and pulled him close, "Come on, let's go meet the rest of the team, yeah?" He said, looking up at Kuroo and Bokuto who were still staring at them in shock.

Kiyoomi and Atsumu walked out of the room and Kuroo followed.

They climbed up a set of stairs and walked down a hallway which opened into a common room decorated with dark walls and equally dark furniture.

There were six people sitting around on the couches talking to one another, but they went completely silent the moment Atsumu and Kiyoomi entered with Kuroo and Bokuto following behind.

"Tetsurou, Koutarou, meet my team," Kiyoomi announced, gesturing to the six people in the lounge.

Kiyoomi began to introduce the team one by one, "First up, this is my second-in-command and cousin, Komori Motoya," he said, and Komori smiled and waved, "He is the team's chemist and demolitionist, as well as our secondary hacker."

Atsumu spoke up next, "Over there is my twin Miya Osamu, he's the team's swordsman," he introduced, gesturing to Osamu who nodded his head in greeting.

"That's Iwaizumi Hajime," Kiyoomi said, and Iwaizumi raised his hand to greet, "He's our close-combat and melee fighter."

"That one is Suna Rintarou," Atsumu said, and Suna merely blinked and just about waved, "He's the team's hacker an' technological genius."

Kiyoomi gestured to Oikawa, "Oikawa Tooru, our sniper," he introduced and Oikawa smiled and waved enthusiastically.

"An' last but not least, Akagi Michinari, the team's medic an' poison specialist," Atsumu finished with a grin as Akagi giggled and smiled at him.

Kiyoomi turned to Kuroo and Bokuto, "They already know who you are so feel free to settle in," he informed before he grinned mischievously, "Welcome to the team."
