"We've been searching for a while now, Tommy," Tubbo says as we walked through the forest, searching for Wilbur.
"I know we've been looking for a while but I can't just leave my brother," I told him.
We had been walking for quite a while now. I wanted to call his name but Tubbo said that it would likely only attract monsters that were plentiful in the forest. We had already almost ran into two more of those things that made the high-pitched buzzing and exploded. Tubbo had told me those were called creepers. They left you alone if you stayed out of their territory apparently.
Tubbo stopped walking.
"There's a chance he might not even still be here. This forest isn't that big and we've already covered most of it." He replied.
I look at the ground. What if he's right? What if Wilbur had ran out of the forest? Wouldn't he have come back looking for me though?
"I have a house near the village. We can go back there. You're welcome to stay. I have some food and an extra bedroom." Tubbo tells me.
"There's a village here?" I ask.
Tubbo nods.
"It's not very big though. There used to be a lot of us but not anymore." He replies.
"Okay, let's go," I say after a moment's hesitation.
As we walk out of the forest, I take one last look at the forest, hoping to catch a glimpse of Wilbur's curly brown hair or a sleeve from his long trench coat, but there's nothing. I look over at Tubbo. He seemed a lot friendlier than anything I've run into down here so far but what if it was all a trick? After all, why would he want to burden himself by helping me?
"You don't need to worry you know," Tubbo says.
"What?" I ask, a bit startled.
"I notice the way you look at me. Fallen humans are so easy to read." He tells me.
"O-Oh," I reply since that's all I could think to say.
"Why are you helping me?" I ask after a second.
Tubbo takes a few seconds to respond.
"Well, let's just say you remind me of someone I helped once." He responds after a few seconds.
"Where are they now?" I ask.
Tubbo abruptly stops. I glance at him, worried I asked the wrong thing but he didn't seem mad. He just seemed... sad but it was hard to tell with the skull covering his face. After a moment, Tubbo shakes his head and continues walking.
"Don't worry about it." Is all he said.
I knew enough to not pry. We walked through fields of dark grass and scattered trees in silence before Tubbo spoke again.
"So, are you close with your brother?" Tubbo asks.
I nod.
"This sounds a little sappy, but we've always been there for each other," I tell him.
"I used to have two sisters. Their names were Lani & Teagan. Teagan disappeared after going to the dire mines. That was many years ago." Tubbo said. (Tubbo has a sister named Teagan, Right? I think?)
"What about Lani?" I ask.
"I don't know. Haven't seen her in a while. She decided to move away from the village after our parents died." Tubbo replies.
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. I know what it's like to not have parents. My dad disappeared a few years back. My mom isn't dead but she hasn't been the same since. It's like she's not even there anymore." I said, feeling sad.
