"I'm back!"
Elena shouts, attracting Alessia's attention. Elena kisses her on the cheek after she runs up to her and hugs her mother.
"How did school go, honey?"
"It was lovely, and after school, I played Ludo and beat Aunty and Uncle."
Her daughter informs her.
"Oh, that's wonderful to hear," Elena says.
"That's not true ooo, I was so close but Funke distracted me, so it was her fault."
From the living room, her uncle yells.
"You were too preoccupied with the football game, Lanre!"
Aunty Olufunke fires back.
Alessia and Elena laugh as they talk. Elena enters the living room and bows to greet them.
"Hello, Aunty and Uncle."
"How are you doing, Elena?"
"I'm fine, just a little tired from work."
"Pele, do you want to relax in your bed or do you want me to make you something like pepper soup?"
Her Aunt makes a suggestion.
"There's no need, but thank you Aunty; I might make ginger or camomile tea."
"Okay, then."
Elena is motioned to the kitchen by Aunt Aaliyah.
"Alessia, go watch TV with Aunty and Uncle; I'll catch up with you later." Her daughter nods and walks into the living room to sit on the sofa.
"What do you want to discuss, Aunty?"
Elena inquires."I believe it is past time for Alessia to meet her father."
Her Aunt proclaims.
"Assolutamente no, zia."
"Beh, perché no, Elena?" She interrogates her niece.
Elena exhales a sigh.
"I'll tell you what happened between him and I, and then you tell me your thoughts."
"Sure, go ahead."
Elena explains how they met, how she became pregnant, and how their relationship ended. Elena's Aunty is stunned by the end of her story.
"Now I understand why you were hesitant when I asked who the father of the unborn child was."
Elena nods in agreement.
"I sense a but coming," Elena says.
"But do it for her sake; you can't keep making that ridiculous excuse; it won't be nice when Alessia finds out too late."
"I get it, Aunty."
Her Aunt speaks again as she prepares to walk away.
"Forse puoi farlo domani o un altro giorno?"
Her Aunt inquires
Elena thinks for a moment.
"Hmmmm, lo farò domani, dipende da cosa lui dice pero."
"That's perfectly fine with me. I'll leave you alone now."
Elena nods in response and proceeds up the stairs to her room.
Elena goes to the bathroom and showers, hoping that everything will be great tomorrow.
She puts on her pyjamas and goes downstairs to find her aunty Olufunke and uncle Lanre play Ludo with Alessia.
"May I participate?"
Elena inquires.
"Nope!"
Alessia responds jokingly.
"That's not right, let Mummy play na."
Elena and her daughter played Ludo against her aunty and uncle, which ended in a tie, although there were a few occasions where the uncle would cheat and his wife would notice and call him out on it.
"È pronta!" Aunty Aaliyah yells from the dining room.
Everyone rises from the floor to enter the dining room and take a seat at the table.
"It smells fantastic; what did you cook?"
Uncle Lanre inquires, his gaze drawn to the various dishes on the table.
"I made caprese chicken, Italian sausage stuffed zucchini (Alessia's favourite), and the classic spaghetti with ragu."
She pauses in her speech.
"What else did I prepare? Oh, stupid me, there's also leftover ogbono soup with pounded yam, and since Funke prefers eba, I made it, along with jollof, plain rice, and stew."
Aunt Aaliyah explains, and Aunty Olufunke smiles, pleased that she thought about what she liked.
"That jollof does not appear to be cooked to me."
Uncle Lanre makes a remark while pointing to the food, to which aunt Aaliyah shakes her head.
"Then we'd be the ones eating it, except you."
Aunt Aaliyah simply shrugs.
"Oh, I was just kidding."
While conversing, the Afolabi-Alfonsi family laughed and ate delicious food.
The aroma of their meal together infused the dining room with a happy vibe.
