The Life of Eniola (rewriting story)

Chapter 2

4 years later...

Ever since my father died, Mum has never been the same ever again. She started to eat junk food more often than she used to, she would cry every day looking at my dad's picture, and at times, she would turn to alcohol and drink frequently. On the other days, she would sleep for the entire day, it's sad that I get to see my mother in this state, it makes me feel helpless.

When I look back at it, as a child I had no clue what depression was.

However, my aunty has been coming every so often to check up on her and send her to the doctor to give her anti-depressants to support her.

Although everything changed when one day, I came back from school and saw that the house was a mess: broken picture frames and smashed vases were on the floor.

Confused at what was going on in the house, she called out her mum.

"Mum, I'm home!" She called.

Silence filled the room.

Elena went to the kitchen to see if she was there but only stopped when she stumbled upon something. She looked down and saw her mother laying on the floor.

That's when she screamed.

She felt her eyes widen with horror.

Her mouth opened and her screeching soon turned into sorrowful tears. Her hands were shaking at the sight, so she decided to take her phone from her bag and called her aunty.

After the third ring, her aunt answered the call.

"Afternoon dear, how was school?"She asked, unaware of what Elena was about to say next.

"Aunt Viviana? S-s-s-something just h-h-h-h-h-happened."She stuttered.

"Are you okay? Where's your mother?"She asks, now worried.

"Mummy is on the floor. Aunty, I-i-i don't know what to do."Elena starts to cry again.

"Oh, my goodness. Don't panic, okay? Honey, call the ambulance now. I'm coming soon. Don't worry." Her Aunt hung up the phone.

The ambulance and Elena's aunt knock at the door and she opens the door for them. The paramedics give a sympathetic smile towards Elena and move along into the kitchen to carry her mother's body into a stretcher. Her aunt gasps, shocked, as she sees her sister's pale face, she becomes emotional at the sight in front of her.

Viviana and Eniola go to the hospital to see how Eniola's mother is doing. After getting out of the car, Eniola's ex-aunt enters the hospital, followed by Eniola, Viviana asks the receptionist in which room she is staying. The receptionist tells them the room number that she is in but advises them to not go inside until they are permitted by a doctor, so they go upstairs and sit down, after a while, they see a doctor come out of the room.

They both stand up and Viviana asks how is Eniola's mother doing.

"Will she be okay, Doctor?"Viviana asks him.

"She is in great hands. I assure you that things will be okay, Ms Alfonsi."The doctor leaves and Eniola starts to cry.

Viviana looks at her and consoles her.

"Is Mummy going to be alright?"She asks, in between her cries.

"Non preoccuparti, tesoro. All will be well. You know your mom is a brave woman. Let's pray, okay?"
