Normani

The first thing I hear in my ear is Ryan's huffing and puffing.

"Really?"

"Normani." She says harshly huffing. "Normani."

"Yes? Why are you yelling at me like a mother?"

"Oh Normani! You don't have any right to be all "woe is me", when you ditch us to go out with some random!"

"She ain't random, Ryan!"

"So who is she?"

"A friend!" I reply quickly. "Look I --- I don't got to explain shit to you Ryan! Don't act as though you've done the same with that Nigga Juriyah that you been on and off with. You don't got the right to come and call me out and single me out--"

"Shut the fuck up Normani, it's pushing MONTHS that none of us have seen you. Suddenly the next time we see you, yo---"

I hang up the phone aggressively and Cookie crawls onto my lap. I also hear a small "oh" coming from the doorway. This makes me quickly turn my head.

"Hey."

"Hey gorgeous. Watch doin' here all upset?"

I huff harshly, "I'm not upset."

She sits on the bed next to me. I sort of lean my head back. She makes deep eye contact with me.

"Hey. Talk to me."

"What is there to talk about?" I sigh, "My friends are upset that I ditched them."

"Oh... Okay."

"I don't even want to give it any energy."

I slump forward and move to lean on her shoulder. The position is a little awkward, since I'm hovered over her and not quite sitting on her lap. She has an arm over my shoulder that makes me feel warm. I look up and we make eye contact. She gasps a little and we both look away bashfully.

At the moment I can't even be upset at their responses because if they knew, i'm more than 75% sure they would be more understanding. maybe more if they actually knew Megan like I have gotten to. But it's not the case in this scenario.

"Fuck."

"What?"

I feel all warm and stuff inside. My chest is like... I don't even know. It feels like an avalanche is tumbling around in there. It feels good.

To say Megan is my best friend is an understatement. Because the more we've gotten to know each other being under the same roof, the more it feels different. I can't put a name to any of this right now.

"What, Normani?"

"Nothing, Megan." I respond.

"You sure?"
