Megan
The gates open and the prisoners flood out into the visitation room. Teyana's eyes light up at the sight of me.
"T!"
"Megan, gurllll, I swear you gettin' taller every time I see you!"
"T, quit talking like that!" I laugh.
I come over to her and give her a big hug and swing her around. It's always so good to see her especially considering the support she's been. As much as Normani still isn't in the best of terms, She has considered paying Teyana a visit.
The room is bright and due at the same time. We sit down across from each other and begin chatting.
"Hey how you been?"
"I've been good."
"And Normani? My niece?"
"Both are good, but speaking of Samira, we need to talk."
She frowns and her brow arches.
"What do you mean? She hurt? She in trouble?"
"No... but she almost got arrested last week. Something about how she was possibly in danger---"
She grabs my head and we duck down on the table low enough to where she is inches from my ear.
"When I tell you, you need to remain calm. Please. Remain calm."
My heart begins to accelerate in the worst way possible.
"My brother, he isn't dead."
Immediately I feel sick.
"How?" I go to sit up but she puts me back down.
"I don't even know. But about 6 months back, he visited me unexpectedly about two weeks after you last visited me and like hours after Normani gave me a brief call. I don't know how we haven't even heard his name. It's like he has a brand new identity. He signed himself up as a visitor under the name Robert Otis. That's all I know. He looks different, Megan. I suspect this could be beyond the life that we came from. This had to be some Fraud or some scamming of some kind. But he's alive. He wanted me to give you information and that if I wouldn't say anything he'd find that girl himself."
I force my head up.
"You kept this from us. For 6 months..."
"I'm sorry but I know how long Normani's struggled with PTSD and I just didn't want to burden either of you."
"Bullshit. How do you keep this from me? It's my job to protect this woman. I'm gonna make her my wife. We're basically a family. And I cam't even protect them?!"
"Now don't start talking' like that, Megan." She says. "Don't tell me you can't protect them, you can."
I sigh and out my head in my hands. I just keep huffing and puffing. Heat filling my face. I feel fatigued.
