Public gyms always freaked me out, but it was kind of a beautiful thing at the same time. Look past the sweaty meatheads downing four bottles of water in half an hour, past the deadly weights, and you can see average people. Me. An average person in need of a personal trainer. Lame, when the only reason was because of my New Year's resolution, and I was one of the ten percent of people in America that was holding true to that resolution. I wanted to build muscle. I wanted my body to look amazing, and what better way than a personal trainer?
My closest friend, and basically my big brother, Jordan Eckes had recommended this gym, and especially recommended a blonde woman. Jennifer or something. She was from Australia, but Jordan said our friend Rob used to work with her a bit for working out.
I pushed my way past the young guy sweating like a maniac during his leg workouts. He had a very determined face, which I found kind of amusing considering that he was extremely built already. He smiled at me and I smiled back before he returned to his workout.
A couple feet down was an orange-haired woman at a punching bag. A very tall man was standing behind it to steady as she threw punch, punch, spin kick. She yelled as she did so, and I just watched in amazement. It was like watching karate in the movies, but better.
She removed her gloves, sweat running from her forehead to her sports bra as she bent down for her water bottle. Then she smiled up at me.
"You lost, hun?" she called. The man removed his mask and walked over.
"Oh, um, I was just watching," I said.
She thanked me. "You look like you're searchin' for someone." I kind of enjoyed her slight Southern twang. It fit her well.
"Actually, um, my friend recommended this place to me. He also said there was a trainer from Australia?"
She grinned. "I know exactly who you're talking about. Chad, can you pass me that towel?"
The man nodded and handed her the towel, which she used to wipe her face before setting it around her neck.
"I'm Hayley, by the way," she said as she started to walk. I hurried to follow after her. "I'm the manager here, and that's my fiancé Chad. I'm here five days a week but schedule stops there. I believe in the element of surprise, because can you really trust how well your business is doin' if they know when you're comin' to check on them?"
I nodded. Seemed like a logical method.
"The girl you're lookin' for is Jenna," Hayley continued. We walked to the back of the gym, where a few people were lifting weights. "She moved here from Australia a few years ago, Sydney, to be exact. She's one of our personal best. And her body...it's to kill for."
Hayley led me to two women in the back. The brunette was hunched over the one lifting, spotting as the one lifting flexed her arms.
"That's Jenna?" I asked. "The one spotting?"
Hayley giggled. "Oh, no, honey. That's Courtney, her assistant, kinda. Jenna's the one liftin'."
And then the barbell was set down, and Jenna sat up. I could've sworn my jaw dropped open as I looked over her body. She wasn't ripped like a crazy bodybuilder, but I think the fact that she was covered in sweat with a determined look on her face was extremely sexy. Her short hair was dyed dark green, no longer blonde, and she poured some water into it. As she shook her head to let the water out, a wide smile formed on her face.
I found myself biting my lip. Okay she was really attractive.
"Told ya her body was to kill for," Hayley laughed. "You're already hooked aren't ya?"
