The next days felt quite short.
All that General Kang did was plan a battle strategy in advance, and made sure that his officers know it in order to build more coordination. They've held multiple meetings and training, even gathering volunteers from the village just to participate on the field and boost their number.
"Once we are in the heat of the battle, it will be impossible to change our strategy and for me to give orders." Taehyun says as his hands leaned against the surface of the table inside his office. In the brown-lit room with wooden touches on the walls, the general's office felt more serious. "So, I need your utmost attention to detail."
"Yes. Sometimes, some soldiers are still fighting even when the battle has already been executed, because they don't know that the leader is dead or the enemy's general has surrendered, due to complications with communication." Taehyun's right hand, Yeonjun, puts in.
Everyone in the room took down their notes, listing down the possibilities.
"The war will occur at the center of the island—The border." Taehyun says. As the location determines the outcome, their chances of winning the war are 50-50, since both kingdoms are set on ground.
"Make sure the chariots are ready. Archers must be divided, with the half fighting on the central terrain, the other half on the sides, luring the enemies into a trap." The general laid out the map in the middle of the table, "Our army is smaller than the Hearths, so we need to be keen and carefully lay out the positions."
"The troop will be organized in units by their level of skill experience, and with weapons assigned to them. The untrained will be placed at the back, novices in front of them, veterans in the middle, and the most skilled at the front line. The weapons and equipment will be assigned to the sides, the front, and the back."
"The chariots will be positioned at the front and middle, brewed dangerous potions at the back being busted towards the enemy, and the others, which are cavalry, infantry, spearmen, will branch out from front to back."
The number of the Mists' soldiers is significantly smaller than the Hearths, which means every detail is important as one mistake can lead to them losing.
"The war transpires tomorrow. Good luck and finalize the training for the rest of the day. Dismissed."
Once everyone was out of the room except him and Yeonjun, Taehyun's stoic face dropped in dread.
If Taehyun was being truthful, he doesn't feel all too confident now compared to weeks ago. Despite everyone's vigorous preparations and practices they've done, he wasn't sure they'd win this. Although he could say that the Mist excels at mysticism and combats, their numbers of fairy soldiers are comparably lower.
Their weapons might be advanced, but not as much as the Hearths. The other side knows their mastery of weaponry and machinery, despite the Mists being the main source of oil on the island.
"Hyun, you okay?" Taehyun was startled when he felt a warm palm patting his shoulder. He staggered his breath before sighing.
"I want this to happen. I want the war to ensue." The general utters as his fist slowly closed into a grip.
"We know, Taehyun, but now you don't look like it..." Yeonjun clears his throat, "Are you having doubts now?"
Taehyun groaned and closed his eyes, his fingers digging through the subtle waves of his hair. "I don't– I don't know, Jun." He grumbled and immediately shook his head, silently kicking his feet on the floor.
"What are you scared of, General? We've already gone too far. It's hard for us to back out, especially when the villagers have evacuated to the safe grounds."
