Emily heard the wind whistle through the mountain peaks. It was a chilly moaning, screaming sound like something dying. Emily shivered. She lunged again, her hand brushing the wider crevice, but once again her pinned foot brought her back down.
Something was wrong. She was alone. Cold stone brushed her hand, as she felt her way. A fallen pillar shaded her from the collapsed ceiling and the tons of dirt behind it. She reached farther and found warm sand. A way out! Emily tried to move. Sitting up she felt dizzy. Pain made her fall backward. There was nothing to see except purple and yellow spots dancing before her eye. Eye? Only one eye? Emily blinked, blood covered her face. She couldn't see! She was bleeding! She had to get out! Blood was bad!
The sand!
Emily dug at it, screaming.
Emily screamed. The rocks seemed to move in squeezing her closer. Her screams bounced off the walls of the rock. Emily squeezed her eyes shut and screamed again.
The sand went flying as she dug into it. Silt rose from the sand, contaminating the air. She couldn't breathe!
Emily hyperventilated.
She came out of it. Spots danced in front of her eye.
There was blood!
Blood on her jacket!
Blood!
Blood!
Her hands clawed at the sand. Blood dripped into her eye. Emily screeched again. Sand and silt! Suddenly she couldn't breathe!
Emily screamed. Her scream echoed off the rocks. She jerked upward. Screeching she ripped her boot free of the rock. Scrambling to the top of the crevice she screamed again.
Something leathery. Fragile. Suddenly her hand went through it.
DEAD BODY - FACE FOREVER LOCKED IN A SCREAM!
Emily screamed and fell back into the darker crevice. The Silk Road mummy's face was grimacing too. A fall and skull fracture infection had sent him to a painful death.
Emily screamed and lunged toward the top. Her hand ripped open, cut on the rocks. She spun sideways on the icy wall.
The crevice was deeper here!
Can't breathe! Can't breathe! DEAD BODY! Emily screamed and whirled. There was another one!
She was falling.
IT WAS COMING TOWARD HER!
She was falling.
IT WAS GOING TO KILL HER!
A hand caught her.
Her body twisted and rammed into the side of the crevice as her shoulder was nearly thrown out of joint.
Male voice, speaking. Her mind flashed back to Chang. "I don't know how you survived – but you will die!"
HE WAS GOING TO KILL HER!
Emily screamed.
"It's me Em, - Dad. Come on," Indy spoke gently. "Give me your other hand. I'm sorry I'm late."
