Emily Jones had her foot to the floor, focusing on the road ahead. The Berlin Wall pinned her in on one side. From the other side she realized she was getting hemmed in by buildings.
The alleyways were too narrow for the repurposed military turned construction truck she was driving.
Behind her something thudded.
Emily turned her head – as a Russian soldier's boots slammed her across the face.
She fell against the gearshift, scrambling as the burly man's boots took over the controls.
He lifted her from the floor. "I don't know why they want you alive," he growled.
They eyed each other for a moment. She saw hate in his eyes and his grip was iron.
"I'd like to stay alive," Emily retorted in Russian, trying for a kick.
Her boot didn't make contact.
"You won't live." He slammed her against the windshield.
Emily hunched inside her jacket as glass shattered. She knew she was being used as a battering ram.
The truck hit a bump in the road.
The Russian let go of her, steadying the wheel –
Emily stared up at the sky, fighting for balance on top of the truck's hood.
