Indy greeted his wild child with a gripping hug. "Can you NOT give me heart problems by jumping off tall buildings?" he murmured in her ear.
Emily smiled. "I could have been escorted down the stairs by a tall handsome dark-haired sergeant named Grant Maverick - but I think that would have been worse for you, Dad. Seeing your little girl carried off by some man..."
Indy eyed his daughter, lifting her chin. "You're a mess."
"I get it honest." Emily paused, wrapping up Indy's whip. "Dad, where's your hat?"
Indy guided Emily away from the listening post and up the street, explaining, "I had to give it to a certain little girl so she'd know I'd be back."
"You're smitten," Emily teased.
"I'm a grandfather, Em. I used to do the same for you."
They walked up the block together. The Berlin Wall loomed beside them, strangely silent.
"I remember, Dad," Emily smiled. "You used to do that for me. You'd leave for an adventure and promise, 'I'll always come back for you – and my hat.'"
Indy nodded, reliving the fond memories, eyeing the young woman striding down the street beside him. His father's heart reminded him to check for injuries and trembling. Mostly he just wanted to hug his little girl... even if she was eighteen.
Emily took off her fedora and plunked it on Indy's head.
He adjusted it for a moment, shook his head and handed it back to her. "Mine fits better."
They rounded the corner.
Laurel saw them first. "GWANDPA!"
She bolted toward Indy. He swung the child up in his arms, reclaiming his hat. "See sweetheart? Not going anywhere."
Marion rushed Indy. He set Laurel aside, caught Marion in his arms and dipped her, wrapping her in a kiss. "And I mean that, Marion. Not going anywhere. Not this time. Not for a long time."
Annie hugged Emily. "Thank you. Thank all of you." She moved to Mac.
Mac shuddered as Annie hugged him. "I don't know how to thank you!"
"Handing over the Sidenstrasse Tapestry scroll would be appreciated," Mac grunted.
"Safe house, first," Indy replied. "With enough room for all of us."
"Very well, Dr. Jones." Mac glanced toward Emily. "And... Dr. Jones... I'll pick up the scroll pieces tomorrow."
