Emily was thrown from the bike into the ruins. She rolled on the cobblestone streets, disoriented and scrambling for anything solid. Flames were what remained and the soldiers had dispersed to hide in the ruins. They were still coming for her.

The gasoline fumes made her eyes water. Her trouser leg was torn off from skidding on the bike. Emily curled into a ball under the ruins, trying to breathe through her jacket. The fumes were still getting into her lungs.

She pulled her shirt collar up over her mouth, her eyes burning. Her vision cleared, as she saw a figure coming toward her. A Russian uniform. Eyes burning, Emily pulled her weapon.

"STOP!" Jake yelled.

Emily pivoted, firing the gun.

Jake ducked the shot and barreled toward her. He grabbed Emily, lifting her off the ground. "C'mon! Mom has a way out!"
