Author's pov
After whole 1 and a half year here is Yeji getting ready for the first offline day at school. These past years she had to attend the online classes which she hardly even joined. Notes were incomplete but she made sure to complete as much as she can. The school started in June and now it is mid October.
Looking in the mirror she thought of the old times when she praised her appearance. She used to have short shoulder length hair which she used to run her hand through. And the time when there were people who complimented her. With a deep sigh she put the pins in her hair. Exhausted and tired. This past 2 weeks she has been staying up late and writing the school work. Still the little things made her happy. She and Chearyeong were in the same class and she was really grateful for that.
Her family choose to change the house not far from the previous one. Walking down the stairs she remembered to get the water bottle she left on the dinning table. Entering the apartment she walked straight to the table and picked up her bottle. "Can't even remember to get your stuff together. How can we expect from you to study?" Like always her dad nagged.
Taking a deep breath she walked out again. Waiting for the school van.
Later at school she reached the classroom just to find out they are shifted to the computer lab which made no sense to her. When she observed the lab, The computers weren't there and the slaps were empty. 2 rows of benches and she choose to sit on the 5th bench on the right side. Waiting for Chaeryeong she took out her book to check her work. After few minutes Chaeryeong walked in and sat next to her. "I see you are completing your work" Chaeryeong spoke.
"Gosh- just shut up. Its been so long we met" Yeji threw herself in Chaeryeong's arms. "I missed you really" Chaeryeong said. Later when the class started they both were dumbfounded because of the lack of information of what was going on. Most of the girls in class talked about the idol being famous and their types. Chaeryeong had other good friends but for Yeji, she never tried involving herself in any thing.
"Hey" Yeji heard Chaeryeong speaking to someone behind them. She turned to see Yuna. She knew Yuna as a classmate but never were they friends. Once or twice in lower grades they have talked but nothing more. "Hi" And it was completely awkward. "Have you completed Physics?" Chaeryeong asked Yuna. Everyone cared about completing their work because no one in these online classes took written work serious. And all the teachers were checking their class works. "Yes but not sure of the first chapter. It cannot be 2 pages obviously" Yuna chuckled.
"Oh, Hi Yeji" Yuna said with a whole bubbly side of hers. Yeji smiled a little and greeted her back. "So you are Yeji. Finally I met you" Yuna spoke. Yeji again cracked a smile towards her and looked at Chaeryeong. "I mentioned you and Yuna was curious. She said she heard your name but does not remember your face" Chaeryeong clarified. "Ahh, right. But now I know. We texted before and she said she is Yeji. And then there are two Yeji in our class so I had to ask her and her reply was hilarious"
Chaeryeong threw a questioning look at Yeji wonder what her reply was. "I said I was the volleyball Yeji" And Yuna broke into laugher. "Well, only if you don't know, she is known as that" Chaeryeong said. "I was like, how am I supposed to know which Yeji plays volleyball." Yuna said. "You might not know but almost everyone here knows her for that" Chaeryeong smiled and Yuna cleared her throat.
"Well, its embarrassing now" Yeji said scratching her nape. "No, its not. I see you as a friendly person" Yuna said and held her hand in front. Yeji was no one to deny and shook her hand.
Periods after periods went and the first day was exhausting. Yeji felt the urge to rush back home and sleep in her bed. But she knew she cannot be ause of the work that's waiting for her. Chaeryeong also shared that she has shifted somewhere near to Yeji's place which made the girl grin. She got home only to greet the sight of her parents arguing.
Nothing new, she shrugged and dropped her bad at a corner table and changed. Not even caring to eat, she started the writing work. Filling pages for hours while listening to the music. She made herself comfortable in a corner on the queen size bed which she shares with her sister and cousin. A small table under which she stretch her legs. The laptop placed above and her hand never stopping. She knew will that her back was not in its best condition from the same posture she had for day while writing.
"Have you eaten Yej?" Her aunt asked. She shook her head while her eyes were glued to the book. "Not even after coming back from school?" Her aunt asked. A heavy amount of concer heard in her voice. "Nope" she replied. She stretched her back when there was no one in the room. She check the time and it was 9:30. She has been writing from 3 hours now and she was 5 pages away from completing her maths class work book.
Her aunt enters again with a plate in her hand. "Eat first Yeji. Starving will only make you sick" She placed the plate in her hand and asked her to clear the table so that she can eat there itself. "I only have 5 pages if i stop now I'll lose the rythm." Yeji complained. "I'll write for you if you want me to but take a break right now" she sighed and just placed the food in front of her. "Thank you for the food and also for asking to help. But i really should do my work myself because first our handwriting does not match and second i don't like others doing my school work for me"
Her aunt nodded. "Whatever kiddo don't stress yourself" The lady messed her hair and quickly went out before Yeji had the chance to complain. She was really grateful for the little act of kindness people show. Yeji looked out of the window to find clouds trembling. The thunder falling far away as she wonder where it even falls.
Sleeping late at night was her daily thing but tiring herself to sleep was not. Walking up late and rushing was a bad idea. She closed her eyes after setting off her things and arranging her bag for the next day. She did not have the slightest idea of when she drifted off to sleep......
