The police already had reached the Frank's residence. The sound of the police car terrified Pennie slightly, for it was the beginning of the hard part, trying her best not to get caught. Mr. Frank answered the door to talk to the police, and it was heard that he said that the four were just children and they are not ready to answer any questions. The policeman's answer was heard, but inaudible.
Abigail was still standing beside the phone stand. She started crying much more than she already was. Lucy was trying her best not to but was crying too, silently and looking away, unlike Abigail who was completely feeling it. Johnny was trying to comfort Lucy but was also quite trying to stop tears. Pennie got up to comfort Abigail.
Mr. Frank already got back inside and went to Abigail to comfort his own daughter.
"All of you, listen to me." He asks of them in a calm voice, not like how he was shouting, interrogating all of them. He sat down at the side of the four. "Tomorrow or someday, when you are ready, you're going to tell the police what happened, and whatever you saw. Alright?" Everyone nodded their head, slightly barely even noticeable.
Mr. Frank was still comforting Abigail, she calmed down a bit and he needed to call the other's parents. He started calling each parent one by one. Mrs. Leyton, calling her, telling her about what he knows about the happenings. So does he to Mrs. Smith, Lucy's mother. The two were both shocked and Mr. Frank looked like he was having a challenge even saying it.
The last one he called was Ms. Jones. Paula, who was the body they saw. Mr. Frank already rang her a few times but he couldn't reach her.
This scared Pennie a bit, made her feel breathe less. She was going to get caught if she didn't pick up, there was a chance for it."Pennie, I can't reach your mom, I'll call her again later." Said Mr. Frank, trying to make his voice as soft as possible to not scare the child he was facing.
A relief was felt by Pennie, although it was very hidden, it was there, she was allowed to breathe again, but not the same breathe she used to breathe. No fresh air was allowed to her, there was a constant air of animosity for herself and her actions.
She turned her head back to comfort her friends and saw them crying, she realized how she ruined them. Her three friends almost always had smiles in their faces. The first time they got together, their smiles were so bright, and how events have turned out made miserable messes. Having a sight of a dead body can ruin someone for, possibly, their whole life. Not only will Pennie carry this whole thing, but so will they.
She was calm awhile ago, thinking about her mother, but everything seemed to fall apart for her. Her friends, are now crying because of her own selfishness and need to not get caught. Herself, she is now stuck in a loop of her self-made spiral. Now she has no mother. Everything she ever loved. People she loved are everything to her. Everything and everyone is gone for her now.
She didn't see it, it was wrong for her not to, what the future holds after every action. It was not necessarily for her. She still was Pennie even after what happened and even while it is happening. While she changed, her friends will always be her friends, she cared. But she still had absolutely no excuse to use them.
She knew that to herself, but past actions have already happened, whether you want to change it or not, and whether you thought of it or not. It was pure necessity for a human to think before doing anything. Obviously, Pennie did not think enough to keep safety and peace for everyone.
A knock on the door made the group look towards it. Mr. Frank stood up and walked towards the door to open and see who it is. It was the families of Johnny and Lucy. Everyone rushed to their respected family, the three were all hugged by their parents, Pennie was left alone with no one to comfort her, to be there for her.
She will never be hugged by her mother like the two were, never. Not at least by her real mother.
Paula was a perfect mother, she wasn't together with Pennie as much as the other because she was working and she was always needed. But she was there to save people, almost every child in Pennie's class wished that Paula was their mother. But Pennie was faced by a room filled with papers evidence for her mother's crimes written on. And she was there with two men who changed her life completely. And she was there with her, the side of her who thought it was needed to bring justice for harmed people.
Those harmed people, she thought, were the only things that made her do this. She had no anger towards her mother's for she was loving, caring, and complete. She never thought her mother would do this, but it was proven somehow by Dr. Richardson.
Dr. Richardson, the man who claims to be her father, Pennie believed all her mother's crimes, all that horror, she believed it. But him being her father was an absolute lie to her. He was not her parent, and even if he was, he would never compare to Paula.
