There stood behind him was.. something. It was big, wore a trench coat and a fedora to match, though the most interesting part about him was that he had a musical instrument on his back.

"Excuse me gentlemen, couldn't help but notice you all were speeding, hope you got a good reason for that

"Excuse me gentlemen, couldn't help but notice you all were speeding, hope you got a good reason for that." he states.

"Yes we do sir. A loony with a chair was attacking our engine. Said his name was Beowulf or something like that." explained the driver.

"Beowulf? I heard wulfmania was making a comeback, but I'd never thought he would go to the length of fighting a steam train."

"Actually sir, I'm a tank engine, not a train." The driver and fireman flinched. They knew he heard their engine talking. The man walked past the driver and went to the front of the engine. He stopped and just looked at Thomas, observing him. Thomas was feeling rather nervous.

"Does he have a name?" asked the man.

"Thomas." said his driver.

"Well then. Pleasure to meet you Thomas, you can call be Big Band." he said in a more warm voice. " We had gotten reports from one of our scouts of a talking tank engine around these parts. I thought their tune was off, but... I just don't know what to think anymore."

"We understand, people been reacting to our Thomas like they've seen a ghoul." the fireman chuckled.

"I get why. None of Canopy's trains had faces, you're the only one around here who does." He paused for a moment. "Listen, I ain't gonna force you to come with me, but let's just say an acquaintance is eager to talk with you three." The driver and fireman looked at each other, to Thomas, then back to Big Band.

"A lot of people here treated Thomas like a freak, how do we know your acquaintance won't do the same or worse?" asked the driver.

"The doc wouldn't harm your engine, after all he's the man who saved my life." Big Band said.

"You're life?" said Thomas confused. Big band sighed.

"Yeah. You see I wasn't always like this. I used to be just another guy on the force, trying to keep Canopy clean from the scum that inhabited it. Our boys were getting closer to having something to put the mafia group here away for a long time, but it turns out many of the boys were being paid off by them. I tried to stop them, but they just beat me to a bloody pulp and left me to die. The doc took me in, fixed me up and gave me new life. So you see he wouldn't hurt you Thomas, he's just curious about you is all." he finished. Thomas and his crew shocked at what he had told them. It wasn't bad enough that it was just some sketchy looking neighborhoods, but now mafias where here as well. Big Band sighed, he never enjoyed retelling this story. It reminded him of the day he had lost his old life. Thomas spoke up.

"I'm real sorry that happened to you Big Band, those men are despicable." he said. Big Band gave a small smile to Thomas. He still didn't know what he was, but at least he had a kind soul.
