The leaves on the trees began their seasonal change from green to orange. The air became cool, and jackets had been dusted off. Autumn arrived to Canopy and everyone took full notice of it. More presently it was October and nearing Halloween. The Canopy Kingdom was quite fond of the holiday. Kids would dress up in costumes, parties would be held to celebrate, and people would always bring their best foot forward when it came to spooks. The engines enjoyed themselves during this, the stations would be decorated to fit the Halloween spirit including jack-o-lanterns, hangable ghosts, and prop skeletons. The engines even got in on the fun by having purple, orange and black ribbons. Thomas got a special pumpkin lantern, and even Duck got into the spirit by having fake blood on his buffer beam and cab. Truly all the engines were having a great time, all but one.
Percy did enjoy the holiday spirit, but not so much the spooks of the season. Late one night, Percy was shunting in the yards of Canopy's big station at New Meridian. A fog had rolled in, it made it hard for him to see anything. The eerie atmosphere of it made the little engine very cautious. He pushed some trucks into a siding. Suddenly he heard a haunting moan.
"OooOOoooo!" the voice moaned. Percy was scared.
"W-What was that?" he stuttered. His eyes darted from left to right, hoping to see something, or not to. He backed away slowly from his trucks, still trying to find the source of the noise. He heard some footsteps and then the figure popped out from behind a line of trucks.
"BOO!" It yelled. Percy jumped and ran back as fast as his wheels would carry him. During the night, some of the workers left for home and the crews had to throw the points themselves. Percy ran past the switch and onto the wrong line where he smashed into some empty vans.
(Most art done by me.)
The dust had settled. Percy was relieved he stopped, but that soon evaporated when he heard more foot steps sprinting towards him. Percy shuddered.
"Stay back ghosts!" he said still shaking. As the steps got closer and closer, silhouettes appeared followed by a maniacal laughter. It was worse than Percy thought, two monsters had been chasing him. He looked in terror only to find... It was Filia and Squigly rushing towards him.
"HAHAHAHA... Oh we got that little green goblin good." laughed Samson.
"Samson this is no game!" Leviathan snapped!
"I agree with Leviathan on this one Samson." Filia agreed.
"C'mon Filia!" Samson groaned. "You wanted to spook him didn't ya?" Filia paused.
"Well I did, but me and Squigly didn't think he'd have THAT reaction?" Filia tried to defend herself.
"What do mean we? You wanted to." she said with her hands on her hips.
"You went along with it and provided the voice." Filia said. The two started to playfully go back and fourth with each other about the whos and the whys. Percy was no longer scared, he was fuming. The driver and fireman and gotten out to observe the damage. The rest of the train was ok, but the van Percy ran into had been badly damaged. It's rotten wood boards broke, some turned to splinters. The frames were bent, and the wheels lay on the ballast.
