It had been days since Bear and the passengers recounted the disappearance of Percy. People all over the island heard the story, and were worried they would be next. The Fat Controller tried to calm people down, but it did little to help. When the new engines arrived to help with the workload the other engines thought it best to simply say that those engines went to the works for either overhauls or repairs. Their crews and The Fat Controller agreed to this, so the cover story was made. Towns also agreed to this as to not lose business, or their reputations. Still it worried everyone on the island that those engines whereabouts were still unknown.

Some engines however simply didn't buy it. Two such engines were Duke and Duncan of the Skarloey railway.

Duncan is the number six on the SKR

Duncan is the number six on the SKR. He has a small wheel base, a tall funnel, and cab to match. He was notorious for his bad attitude back in the day, but has thankfully softened as the years went on. He is still however quite grumpy with a plain way of speaking. Currently he was repainted in a yellow paint with black lining as they ran out of the usual red all the steam engines wore.

Duke is one of the oldest engine on the railway, and was named after his grace the duke of Sodor

Duke is one of the oldest engine on the railway, and was named after his grace the duke of Sodor. He worked on another railway on Sodor named the midsodor railway with Peter Sam and Sir Handel, although back then they were called Stuart and Falcon. He was a kind engine, and a hard worker too despite his old age. Since he is named after the duke he is proud of it, and is always determined to make sure everything is just so. This often includes keeping an eye on the younger engines, and making sure they are doing things the proper way. He too didn't believe the story of Percy and presumably the others magically vanishing into thin air, it just didn't sound logical.

One night in the sheds Peter Sam had returned after helping some locals search the countryside for the engines. He returned with a rather downcast look.
