"Thomas' first day in the maze," Newt said as he helped her complete her daily tasks. "How do you think it's going to go?"
"At this point, I've given up on guessing how things are going to go with Thomas," she smiled, glancing up at him.
"You must believe in him though. Otherwise you wouldn't be doing all of this."
She nodded. "I'm tired of sitting around and waiting. Things are happening and I'm going to get ahead of it. I'm going to act instead of react."
He smiled at her. "Good that." Their moment was cut off as they heard the sound of the maze changing. "What the... In the middle of the day?" They rushed out of the Homestead and over to the entrance to the maze where a crowd was already gathering.
"Plune," Gally started in a warning tone, but she held her hand up. They listened as the walls continued to move before the sounds stopped. The only thing that could be heard was the Gladers murmuring to each other. They went quiet as Minho and Thomas jogged back into the glade.
"What the hell is going on out there?" Newt asked.
"What the hell you done now, Thomas?" Gally demanded earning a scornful glare from Plune.
"We found something," Thomas told them as they walked further back into the Glade. "A new passage. We think it could be a way out."
"Really?"
"It's true," Minho told Newt. "We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it must be where the Grievers go during the day."
"Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa," Chuck jumped in. "Wait, you're saying you found the griever's home? And you want us to go in?"
"There way in could be our way out, Chuck."
"Yeah or there could be a dozen grievers on the other side," Gally argued with Thomas. "The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he's done, as usual."
Thomas spun around. "Yeah, well at least I did something, Gally. I mean, what have you done? Huh? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time?"
"Let me tell you something, Greenie. You've been here three days, alright? I've been here three years."
"Yeah, you've been here three years and you're still here, Gally! Alright? So what does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently."
"Knock it off," Plune told them.
"Maybe you should be in charge, Thomas," Gally kept going sarcastically.
"Hey! Both of you slintheads cut it out!" she ordered, a slight southern drawl coming into her voice. "Go back to work. Everyone. Now!" The Gladers dispersed, all talking to each other as they went back to their jobs. Thomas and Gally stared at Plune and she glared back at them before they went off too. She closed her eyes and took a breath.
"You alright, love?" She nodded before feeling a hand on her shoulder. She opened her eyes to find him looking at her. "You know I'm here for you, right?"
"I know," she gave him a small smile. "I'm gonna go check on Alby. I'll see you at dinner."
"Yeah." She gave him a chaste kiss and walked to the med-jack hut while Newt watched before going to the gardens.
"Plune," Clint said in surprise as she walked in.
"Any change?" she asked, looking at Alby who laid in the bed. He shook his head and she nodded. "Can I, uh... Can I have a minute?"
"Yeah- Yeah, of course. Just yell if you need us."
"Thanks," she said quietly as Jeff and Clint walked outside. She sighed, pulling up a chair and sitting at Alby's side. "We found something, Alby," Plune told her friend as he continued to sleep. "It might be a way out. We're not really sure yet." She sighed, leaning back and looking at the ceiling. "So much is changing and I don't think it's gonna stop. Everything is just... I wish that you were here. Really here." She gave a half-hearted laugh, "I never realized how much we did together until I had to do it on my own." She looked back down at him, putting her hand in his. "I really need you, Alby. So please just... Don't leave me." She put her head down on the side of the bed, sitting in silence with his hand in hers.

"What's up with Plune?" Thomas asked as he walked over to Newt.
"What do you think? She's dealing with a lot right now."
"I guess. I've just never heard her yell or sound like that."
"Her accent, you mean," he said with a small smile and Thomas nodded. "It doesn't come out very often, usually only when she's drunk or angry, but she's definitely got some southern girl in her."
"You seem to like it."
He couldn't help but continue to smile. "She's my girl. I love every part of her and I do find her accent a bit hot." He paused. "I'm worried about her though. I know you and Gally don't get along, but could you try to get along with him? Anything we can do to help her."
"I'll try," he agreed. "But I'm only doing it for Plune."
"That's enough."

Plune was still sitting next to Alby, willing him to wake up before she felt his twitch. She jolted up, looking at him as his eyes fluttered. "Oh my- Clint! Jeff!" she yelled, glancing between the door and the boy as he sat up. "Hey, take it slow." She helped him sit up and he moved his legs over the side as he stared at the wall. She hugged him gently and his arms slowly came up to hug her back, but it didn't feel right. "Alby?"
"Alby, you alright?" Newt asked and Plune turned to see that Clint, Jeff, Newt, Minho, Gally, Frypan, Thomas, and Terresa had come in.
"Hey, Alby," Thomas leant down in front of him after the older boy stayed quiet. "Alby, we might have just found a way out of the maze. You hear me? We could be getting out of here."
"We can't," he finally spoke, seeming on the verge of tears. "We can't leave. They won't let us."
"What are you talking about?"
"I remember."
"What do you mean?" Plune asked gently, taking his hand in hers. "What do you remember?"
"You," he said, turning to look at Thomas. "You were always their favorite, Thomas. Always. Why did you do this? Why did you come here?" They all looked at each other before loud voices started shouting outside. Alby put his head in his hands and started crying.
"Alby, what are you talking about?" she asked, but he only continued to cry.
"Plune," Gally said, coming back into the hut, "you need to see this."
"Not now, Gally."
"Plune," he said and she heard the tone in his voice, making her look up to see him with a very serious face.
She glanced back at Alby. "I'll be right back," she assured him before following Gally outside.
The next chapter is gonna get crazy, guys, so hold on. And I'm sorry if the accent part seemed a little weird, but I swear it's necessary. If you stick with this series, it'll make sense. Drop your theories in the comments and thanks for reading!
