"This was a bad idea..." I mumbled, staring at the street sign.

"Oh c'mon, you're bloody here now. Don't be a wuss." Maggie said, placing her hand on my shoulder. "Dragged me 12 hours away from home... You aint backing down now." I chewed on my bottom lip and glanced down the street. Children were playing, laughing. I knew my younger siblings would be down there. Maggie let out a frustrated sigh before she wrapped her arm around my shoulder and slowly began to steer my down the street.

It was exactly how I remembered it. This was the backwoods of Salvo so there was no roads or pavement, simply hard, solid ground. The houses that surrounded us were almost falling apart. They either had windows missing or bricks. Bags of rubbish were piled up outside of certain people's houses- I could name them all. 2 years and no one has changed.

My house was close to the end of the street. We followed the curve and saw the kids playing. I recognised the game- Stuck in the Mud. Maggie turned her head and watched them with me. I searched among the small group of children for my siblings... and I saw him.

Little Cooper- only he wasn't so little anymore. He was only 11 and yet he was beginning to shoot up. He was racing around, slapping people's arms to 'unstuck them'. He was yelling commands out to the other kids. I felt all the air leave my body. Maggie squeezed my shoulder, and we continued walking. Cooper didn't notice me, no one did. Until we heard a voice.

"(y/n)!" Shirley. I knew her immediately. My oldest sister. She was sat in front of our house, Bert in front of her. She sprung up and ran over to me. This triggered another child to run out of the house. Shirley was 16 now, she was tall, taller than me. She loomed over me and pulled me into a hug.

"Hey Shirl..." I said as Maggie backed away from me. Shirley held onto me for a very long time until she was pulled away by my brother- Daz. He was 8 now, his hair was completely buzzed off- a punishment from mum. His eye lit up with recognition.

He was always hesitant about physical affection, so I had to grab him and pull him into an embrace. I heard Shirley say something, but I wasn't listening. Eventually, Cooper came over. Lacey also soon followed- she had an apron tied around her small waist. They were all babbling to me, I couldn't understand what they were saying but I just nodded along.

The only one who really hung behind was 5-year-old Bertie. He hovered by the house, his small hand resting on the mailbox. His bottom lip quivered. He doesn't know who I am. He's confused about why all his siblings raced over to me and left him behind. Shirley soon realised and turned back, lifting him into her arms. He kicked his fat little legs, demanding to be put down. Shirley sighed and complied; he trotted back over to the mailbox.

"Who are you?" Daz questioned, turning to look at Maggie.

"Maggie." She said with a shrug, "Who are you."

"I like your voice." Daz said, taking a step towards her.

"Daz." Shirley warned. Shirley and Lacey shared a look before Lacey disappeared inside the small house again. "C'mon, lunch is nearly done." She spoke. The boys grumbled and groaned, Cooper tried to stay out, but she pulled his ear and told him to get inside.

I looked at Maggie, "I don't miss that." I muttered. She smiled before knocking her hip with her fist. "You alright?"

"I'm a bit... out of place here... I'll head back, try and break them vending machines. See what good shit I can find." She smiled but when she tried to walk off, I grabbed her hand.

"Stay." I asked, there was a hint of desperation to my voice, "Please. I need you here."
