5 years later-
"What 'cha thinking about?" Maggie asked, I hummed as I tore my eyes away from the boiling kettle. Maggie was leaning against the blue granite kitchen counter, a cup of warm coffee in her hand, the other was folded over her chest. "Got a bit lost there." She laughed.
I shrugged before replying, "Just thinkin' about Perthree..."
"Ah." She clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth before taking a sip of her coffee. She grimaced and stuck her tongue out in disgust, "Milks gone." She said with a sigh, "It's a shame about Perthree... pretty pissed nothing got fucking done about it... I bloody warned Allister about it as well! Told him we had to move to protect it, but he just stood there like a lemon and watched those bastards take it!"
"It's where you asked me to be your girlfriend." I smiled before the kettle clicked, telling me it was finished boiling, "It's sad."
"That's the IMC for you." She shrugged before walking over to the sink, standing beside me, she quickly poured the remainder of her coffee away, "I'll take it back when I have my own group."
"Ah, it's a shame the Cracked Talons disbanded."
"Yeah, he was pretty torn up about Addy dying." Maggie said before turning her body to face me, I winced at the mention of Addy. She was the reason I had a job, the reason I hadn't slipped back through the cracks, "Oi." Maggie said, placing her hand on my chin, commanding me to look at her, "Cheer up chuck." I snorted and shoved her away.
"You're stupid."
"I know." She grinned, "You remember how pissed Wally was when we called him? At Perthree? Had to tell him his car was dead; we were stuck in Perthree, and he had to drive my baby for three days to catch up to us."
"Yeah." I laughed, "And we basically lived in that damn hotel till we found a new place."
"Don't worry." She cupped my face in her hand, I softly smiled, "Once I get my own group, the first place I'll take is Perthree... get us one of those nice little houses."
I snorted, "You would hate that."
"But you would love it, so I'd live with it."
"Mags..."
"(y/n)!"
"You're like a dog, you need a lot of space. You'd be bloody miserable if I kept you all cooped up!" She rolled her eyes; she knew I was right. She placed her empty cup in the sink before moving towards the door. However, she stopped herself just as she went to leave.
"I uh... Wally and I are gonna travel to Heads Bay, we gotta deliver some... weapon shit to a group." She heisted before I cut in.
"Ill be fine Mags." I insisted, "I've got my work to keep me busy, you don't have to faff all the time-"
"We'll be gone for a while, a week at most." I took in a harsh breath. Shit, a week? The longest Maggie's left me has been four days and even that was hard. I hated it whenever she left me, but I couldn't let her know. Maggie was making serious progress with the Hawks, earning herself a position as Allister's right-hand man. I wasn't worried that Maggie would quit her job or change groups if I complained; I was scared she'd leave me.
Maggie made no attempt at hiding how much her work meant to her.
We had a small instance last year, she was gone for three days- at the time it was the longest we had been apart in four years, it was a lot for me. I called her in a slightly drunken state, and I sobbed for her to come home... Maggie hung up.
She didn't even try to console me, she just hung up and went back to sleep.
Of course, when she came home the next day, she tried to play it off as the signal. She even tried to tell me that it didn't happen- it was a drunken fantasy. We got into a fight, one of our first real ones. She kept insisting how important her job was and when I asked her, "More important than me?"
