I waited for Maggie, with my knees pressed against my chest with my chin leaning on them. I stared down the cliff, looking at the drop; it caused a pit to form in my stomach. I hated heights but... this was the first thing I thought of.
Maggie said she wanted something small- this was it. Sat on my jacket on a cliffside with a few beers next to me.
My back straightened when I heard a motorbike rev closer to me. I moved my legs as I turned my body around to look at her. She no longer looked angry, only sad. Her mouth was pulled into a frown as she kicked herself off her bike after yanking the key out. She walked towards me, the rocks crunching under her boot.
"You alright?" She asked me, hovering to the side of me. I patted the ground next to me, she sighed as she took her jacket off and sat on it, her legs dangling off the cliff. I turned to my side and grabbed a beer, offering it to her.
"I'm sorry-"
"Don't." She warned, "I was... an ass."
"Your reaction was justified; I shouldn't have been snooping." I sighed, "But... this isn't what I want to talk about."
"It isn't?" She asked.
"Welcome to our second date." I announced with a smile. She cocked her head to the side as she pried the bottle cap off with her teeth.
"Our... second date? I thought-"
"I didn't remember? I didn't. Walter told me." Her mouth fell open as she stared at me, I laughed and shrugged before looking straight ahead. I could feel her eyes on me, "We don't have to talk about it... if you don't want."
"I don't want to." She said with a sigh before she turned her head. We both stared off into space. Wow, what a great date this was. "I'm sorry."
"Don't." I said, holding my hand up towards her, "Don't apologise Mags..." I groaned, "This isn't as good as your date." She snorted.
"Are you kidding me? I prefer this so much bloody better!"
"We've just spent the whole-time apologizing." I laughed, so did she.
"Yeah well... I don't want you to be mad at me."
"I wasn't... Are you mad at me?"
"Eh." She wobbled her hand side to side, "A little bit." She shrugged.
"I was just a bit scared, that's all... I thought you weren't gonna come back home this morning... Wasn't sure you'd come here."
"I wouldn't abandon you like that." Walters words rang through my head, about how she loves me. I watched her eyes as she held my gaze. They were different, softer, compared to most other times. Her eyes almost seemed lighter, more amber than brown.
"Where did you go?"
"Shooting at the Cracked Talons meeting place." She admitted, "Shootings a great stress relief."
"It isn't for me!" She threw her head back and laughed.
"Ah nah, you could get could at it!" She said, tilting her head to the side, "I could teach you properly." My heart beat against my ribs.
"I wouldn't be good at it."
"You'd get there. I'm a great teacher believe it or not." She said with a proud grin.
"Is that what you wanted to be when you were younger?"
She chortled before replying, "Hell no! Kids running around while I scream at em'. That aint my style. If anyone asked, I wanted to be a solider- a freedom fighter. I was gonna liberate Salvo! Still am."
