Morning

Diego sat down on the hard wooden bench gingerly. Jade noticed the odd slowness of Diego's gestures and asked if he was still sick.

"No, Jade. My head is fine," Diego said, wincing again as he reached for the syrup bottle.

Wendy felt his head. "He's not lying, but maybe I ought to give you another dose of my aunties' remedy? I have some in a water bottle in my room. I can get it..."

Diego bit his lip and then finally spat out, "No thanks. That crap made me spill my guts to everyone last night. I got paddled because of it!"

Jade bit back a laugh, "What? You got paddled? Are you serious?"

Wendy cleared her throat. "It is clearly stated that they use corporal punishment here. Guess you didn't read the handbook before you signed the form?"

Jade scoffed, "Screw that. It was like a hundred pages! But Diego, what did you do?"

"Excuse me," Diego said shortly. "I can't do this now."

Diego was done. He didn't want to talk about it. The husky teen picked up his plate and moved it down at the other end of the table with Landon, Rafe', and Henry.

Jade shrugged, "What's his problem?"

Mr. Williams came in with his plate, looking to see if Emma had arrived yet. She had not. He approached Jade and Wendy.

"Hey girls, mind if I sit here?" Dorian asked.

Wendy smiled politely and said, "Sure. So nice breakfast, huh? I love pancakes. Better than eating berries and stuff we could steal."

Wendy looked around for Karlie, but didn't see her. Since classes weren't in session the meal times were more flexible.

"Yes, everything looks good," Dorian said. He looked at Jade, who was looking tense. "Jade, I already told you, I will not tell the Armory anything about you guys being here. Nothing, okay?"

Jade huffed, "It's not that. I believe you. I guess I owe you an apology for calling you 'fuck face' that day. I shouldn't have been defacing that grimoire."

Dorian nodded, impressed at her maturity. "Why thank you, Jade? You know I never wanted them to put you in detention that day...I would have been happier having a discussion about the historical importance of that book. I was able to save most of it."
Jade smirked, "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. A normal person would have been pissed..l No offense but you were always kind of a do-gooder."

"Ah, none taken, Jade. Um, excuse me. I promised the new guidance counselor I would show her around," Dorian smiled, watching as Emma Tig came into the large dining room.

Wendy's brows creased, "Do we still stink or something?"

Jade turned her nose to check her armpit, "I don't. Maybe it's you?"

After breakfast, the other guys went to unpack the rec room and help set up the ping pong and foosball tables. Someone said there was a pool table coming next week. Henry never liked group games. He always was terrible at them. Henry decided he should probably give Lisina a call. She was probably worried about him. Hayley said he could use the phone in her office. As he walked through the corridor looking at some old painting of ships, he felt someone behind him. It was a girl about his age.
