Evening

Dinner had been spaghetti with a choice of meat sauce or marinara made by Jackson and Ollie using Mary's recipe. Ollie had also made salad and garlic bread, but tried to keep it pretty simple.

Hayley complimented them and thanked them for the meal in the dining room. Even the younger kids seemed to be eating and liking the food.

"We still don't have a cook hired yet, but hopefully that will happen this week," Hayley announced. "And would everyone please welcome the Head Mistress' cousin...Mr.-"
Landon whispered to Rafe' and Diego, "Hey, doesn't that guy look like Alan Jackson?"

Rafe' shrugged and Diego looked confused. Landon was going to explain who the famous country singer was, when Ollie hushed him. Landon shifted uncomfortably on his throbbing backside and thighs. He would have never guessed that a ruler could stung so much, but it did. He certainly didn't want to get in more trouble today and turned his attention back to Hayley. He knew Ollie was watching them closely.

"It is also my honor to welcome Professor Rupert Vardemus. He will be teaching occult studies and literature. We are real lucky to have him here. Would you please give him a warm welcome to Crescent Academy?" Hayley said, clapping. The others joined in and Professor Vardemus bowed and thanked everyone. Although he was only in his 60s, he was the eldest person in the room by nearly a decade and the only one with gray hair.

"He looks pretty nice," Landon commented.

Diego yawned, "Yeah, I guess. But the old teachers can be strict or senile. We had this one bird at my old school who used to fall asleep reading the newspaper. Everyone would tiptop out. This dude looks old enough to do that."

Suddenly, Professor Vardemus was behind Diego. Diego grimaced and looked uncomfortable.

"I do not make it a habit of falling asleep in lessons, young man. Nor will I accept any of you slacking in my course. I've read all of your files and expect to see the best out of all of you. I am also now your new dorm master. I will be doing a room inspection tonight," the Professor stated. "And sit up straight, Diego."

Landon looked at Ollie, "What the hell, man? I thought you were our dorm master!"

Ollie shrugged and looked perplexed as he replied, "Guess not. Diego, hope you picked up all your drawers off the floor, like I told ya to."

Diego frowned, "Shit, I totally forget about that!"

Rafe' let out a harsh laugh, "Dude, you are full of it. We told you three times about it!"

Ollie got up, "Excuse me, fellas. I think I might just have thought up a new job for myself!"

Jackson barked out a laugh at Ollie's latest suggestion.

"You? Be the cook? Oliver, are you drinking shine?" Jackson pressed.

Hayley gave Jackson a glare. "You know what, Jack. It ain't a terrible idea. Mary has basically taught Ollie everything she knows. I mean, she's only a phone call away," Hayley reminded him.

"Yeah, but that's Bayou cooking...Okay, I gotta admit, Ollie, you make a fine gumbo but cookin'? That's really what you wanna do. You always bitch when you gotta do all the cleaning up yourself," Jackson pointed out.
