While Adelaide made sure the house was empty, the baby sat bundled up on the couch where the assassin had left her. "Don't give me that look." Adelaide sat down with a towel to clean her knife. "They won't be back until summer." She referred to the owners of the vacation home.

The baby started crying uncontrollably and Adelaide had to find some way to keep her quiet. The Red Room would ask for confirmation of five kills. If they saw her with the baby, they would assume that they were slowly losing their grip on her.

She tried everything she could to calm the baby but nothing worked. "You are making this more difficult than it has to be. If we want to go unnoticed you have to learn to be quiet." She told the infant as she cradled her in her arms. "What if we fall?" She started singing the song in English for the baby. "Then we fall together. I can't let you go. But I can't stay. Please forgive me for all I've done to you. I only drag you down with my own regret."

The house was finally quiet enough for Adelaide to hear the sound of her own breathing.

"Rue." She named the baby. Adelaide quickly put the baby on the couch once more when she had the growing suspicion someone else was in the house. She silently picked up her knife and moved to the kitchen that had a doorway to the hall leading from the front door to the back of the house.

She walked to the doorway and held the knife up to a man's throat. He had long brown hair and a mask covering most of his face. "Who are you?" She questioned.

He simply grabbed her arm and forced her to drop the knife. He pulled out a gun and moved to aim it for her head. Adelaide twisted her body and used the momentum to kick him just below his sternum. He stumbled back and dropped his gun. She was quick to drop to her knees and grabbed the gun off the floor and aimed it at him, but not before he pulled out another and aimed it at her.

They stared at each other for a moment before she folded behind the wall next to the doorway, just barely missing the bullet fired in her direction.

Rue's screaming from the living room distracted them both. Adelaide took her advantage and fired at the man. He held up his arm and the bullet bounced off with a metallic ring.

She bolted for the living room and in her rush to reach the baby, she was thrown back into the wall with immense force.

He clearly had her beat in strength. She stood and tried for a kick at his ribs. He caught her leg and tried to flip her body but she caught herself on the same foot. Before she could try anything else he threw her to the ground.

Adelaide laid on the floor with her head throbbing and her back aching. When she saw the man stalking towards Rue, she ignored all pain and ran to the small child's rescue.

Adelaide pushed her foot off of the arm chair, using it as her jump start, and wrapped her legs around his shoulders.

With all the muscles in her body she bent her back and threw the man across the room. He was down for only a moment.

Adelaide ran to grab Rue but before she could get anywhere she felt the barrel of a gun against the back of her head.

She waited for him to pull the trigger but instead, he hit her over the head with the gun, knocking her unconscious.
