"These were in Phil Coulson's jacket

"These were in Phil Coulson's jacket. I guess he never did get you to sign them." Fury tossed the bloody trading cards on the table. "We're dead in the air up here. Our communications, the location of the Cube, Banner, Thor..."

Divide and conquer is a popular term. It's a common plan used in movies. But with this team divided, they've already lost, without even trying.

"I got nothing for you. I lost my one good eye. Maybe I had that coming. Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tessaract. I never put all my chips on that number, though, because I was playing something even riskier. There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea. In heroes."

Stark suddenly stood up. He waited a moment before he walked away.

"Well, it's an old-fashioned notion."

Steve, soon, was the next to leave.

"This was never going to work." Adelaide finally broke the silence.

"I had to try." Fury said.

"Well you should have tried with different people. Assassins, soldiers, gods. It was never going to work. Half of your team just wants to live normal lives." Adelaide said.

"I'm sorry for trying to save the world. Maybe one day you can say the same. If you ever try." Fury said before he walked over to his monitors.

Adelaide left in a hurry. She found Agent Romanoff and Barton in the hospital wing.

"Romanoff, can speak with you?" Adelaide asked.

"Sure." She said and started to get up.

"It's time to go." Steve said suddenly entering the med bay.

"Go where?" Natasha asked.

"I'll tell you on the way. Can you fly one of those jets?"

"I can." Barton said, coming from the bathroom.

"You got a suit?"

"Yeah." Barton nodded.

"Then suit up."

Adelaide traded in her torn up S.H.I.E.L.D. suit for a new white one. Dozens if pockets and places to hold guns and knives.

"Ready?" Steve asked her.

"Guns," Adelaide held up the weapons, "batons," she repeated the action, "and my personal favorite, knives."

Steve stared at her for a moment. "Dramatic."

"Just prepared." Adelaide said. She reached the door to leave before Steve grabbed her by her arm.

"We do this as a team." He told her.

Adelaide didn't say anything. She pulled her arm away and walked out.

The four of them walked into the loading bay and into a jet. A man working on something stopped them.

"Hey, you guys aren't authorized to be in here." He said.

"Son, just don't." Steve told him.
