Everyone watched Thor and Loki erupt in a funnel of blue light that would take them back to their home.
Steve walked over to Adelaide, waiting for her to glare at him. "So, are we a team now?" He asked.
"Only during crisis." She said.
"So, while you're still here, can I ask you something?" Steve asked. "Could you ever trust me to be your teammate?"
Adelaide stayed quiet. She didn't want to trust him because she didn't know what would happen if she did. She didn't know what would happen if she trusted any of them.
"It's up for discussion... At the next crisis."
"That's not very helpful." Steve said. He scanned her face for any indication she might tell him something.
"It wasn't meant to be. But I can tell you before I worked for HYDRA, I worked for the Red Room, and before that, I lived in Germany. And I've been around a long time." Soon Adelaide felt like she had said too much.
"So that's what it is. You're angry you lost the war." Steve said, his guess was far from correct.
"That's not what I said." Adelaide folded her arms. "Let me know when you figure it out, or don't. In the mean time I have a job interview."

"I didn't want to show you this until I knew you were committed." Fury said, leading Adelaide into an elevator.
"What is it?" She asked.
"You'll see."
On the ride up Adelaide couldn't help but pull on the collar and sleeves of the uniform she wore.
She noticed Fury's confused look. "It's a little uncomfortable. You know, I have a better one at my apartment-" Adelaide started.
"If it doesn't have the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo then no." Fury said.
"I can fix that." Adelaide shrugged.
They reached one of the top floors and walked down an empty hallway.
Fury stopped suddenly and knocked on a door. On the door was a name. Adelaide only thought of it when the door flew open and a woman with long black hair answered.
"Director Fury. Can I help you?" She asked.
"Miss Herrmann, I'd like you to meet Agent Herrmann." He stepped aside to tell the woman see Adelaide.
"You're the Silver Widow, Adelaide Herrmann." The woman said with shock in her voice. She stood with wide eyes and waited for Adelaide to say something.
Adelaide looked at Fury suspiciously. "Yes. Why? Who are you?"
The woman stood up straighter and regained her composure. "I'm Rue Herrmann. I'm surprised you don't remember. You gave me that name, before I was kidnapped by HYDRA."
"Rue has been helping us gain information on HYDRA. It's how we found you." Fury said.
"Rue? And you remember me?" Adelaide asked.
"Fury helped me regain my memories from HYDRA. I've also been looking for you for a long time. I wanted to thank you for saving my life."
Adelaide was about to say something regarding the last part of her statement but felt it best to keep her mouth closed.
"I'll give you two a minute." Fury said and walked back to the elevator.
When the door shut and Adelaide knew he was gone she spoke.
"I don't understand." Adelaide admitted.
"What's there not to understand. If it weren't for you I'd be dead. You saved me and practically made me who I am."
Adelaide felt a sting of pain deep in her stomach. This woman thought she was saved as a child. Thought she was given a good life, all because Adelaide had a conscience.
"Rue, you were a baby. And now..." Adelaide said, she had no special connection to this woman, she had only saved her life, and after last week, that was nothing special.
"And now we're practically the same age." Rue said with a smile.
"We are far from the same age."
Rue decided to break the sudden silence. "I never had a real mother. But growing up in HYDRA, you were the closest thing I had to one."
There it was again, the deep sting. Adelaide never wished to take a young girls mother, and she definitely didn't wish for the child to look up to her. She wasn't a good role model.
"Well, I'm glad you're safe and have a good life." There was nothing else she could say. Rue had grown up believing Adelaide was her hero, she couldn't put that dream to rest, at least not after only meeting her a few minutes ago.
"We should meet up some time. Outside of work, and get to know each other more. I mean, I am practically your daughter." The gestured to the name on the door.
