Ch. 31-

I stand at the gates of the carnival. I flap my wings and float over the entering landing swiftly on the floor. The lights are completely off. It is dark except for the flickering street light near the gates. I take deep breaths as I walk regretting ever staying out too late. I left Skyler and Hailey and haven't returned to them. A shiver runs through me as a harsh wind blows. I look down at my cellphone to check the time. It's three o'clock in the morning. Underneath the time on the screen I notice that I have 5 missed calls, all from Skyler. They must be worried sick right now. Possibly thinking I ditched them or might have been kidnapped. I shake my head disapprovingly as I kick a bottle. Wrappers and plates litter the floor and I stare furiously at it trying to think of an excuse that I can use.

I am a great liar, which has come in handy multiple times with my dad, adults, or teachers, but somehow all the old excuses I have used back then sound ridiculous to me right now. My mind remains blank and I notice that I can't lie to Skyler, but the problem is I cannot tell her the truth neither. I let out a scream as it echoes and then I leap into the sky as I soar to Skyler's home. I land gently on the ground near my car, which Skyler must have used to get home like I have planned. I untie the hoodie from my waist and pull it over my head covering up, not wanting to be walking around half naked especially near Skyler, during the night, and having a name scratched in my chest.

I step up on the porch and begin to climb towards Skyler's room. Placing my feet on bricks here and there and stretching my body in odd angles, I finally, painfully, reach her window. Once I reach it I wedge my foot between the wall and the window and grab the sides of the window as I hang from there not wanting to fall. I tap quietly, with one hand, not wanting to wake her family up. In her room the lights turn on and the curtains are pulled away showing a half asleep Skyler in just a T-shirt that says Trouble on it in cursive. Her hair is a mess that stops at her shoulders and her face is makeup free. She is so beautiful with the natural look but my mind returns back to reality as the window flings open and she stares at me shocked. Her eyes open up completely and she is wide awake, relief spreading throughout her.

"Where the hell where you!?" She inquires.

"Move over for a second,"

She shifts out of the way and I hang on the window and throw my body into her room feet first. I manage not to bump into her desk and land smoothly on my two feet. Skyler stands there her face pink from anger. She quickly shuts the window before the cold wind comes inside because of the lack of her clothes.

"How did you even get up here?" She says looking out her window.

"That isn't what's important. I came to apologize. I didn't think that I would have taken that long,"

"Took long doing what? Using the bathroom?" She hisses sarcastically, "You," She hesitates and then becomes furious, "You," She jabs her finger in my chest, "Left me and my sister by ourselves, worrying sick about you. You don't show up at all until right now and you're now in my bedroom during the nighttime trying to apologize!" She says flinging her arms around.

"Skyler," I put my hands on her shoulders trying to calm her down. I gulp and choose my words carefully, "I'm sorry. I know what I did was wrong on so many levels,"

Her voice lowers and she starts to speak just above a whisper, "But you just abandoned us,"

She isn't mad anymore, she seems more upset now, and I cannot see her in this state. Without realizing myself, my hand rises and entangles in her hair as I hold her neck trying to keep her calm. Bringing her closer to me. Bringing our faces closer. She stares at my chest pulling at the strings of my hoodie. She frowns and our forehead rest against each other.
