Ch. 24-
I spend my entire day searching for jobs for Skyler. I browse the web and save addresses to a few places. When I give up with the internet I rush to Lisa's room on the 5th floor.
She usually ditches technology and reads newspapers. She is the only person that I know who saves newspapers for awhile so I am positive she still hasn't thrown them out. Once I reach to her room I burst in and ask for them. She hands me the ones she doesn't need anymore and continues to read with the one in her hands.
I flip straight to the Help Wanted section and sit down on Lisa's room floor, not wanting to waste a second on anything else. I scan through it as I read the job application. I grab the highlighter from my pocket and begin to highlight the jobs that Skyler would be interested in.
Once finished I dial her number and exit the room not wanting Lisa to stick her big Moroccan nose into my business. Skyler doesn't pick up on the first call and I shrug as I send her a text. I head downstairs to my room and lay on my back.
Skyler must be doing something important. This is the first time anyone has ever ignored my number. I groan and toss my phone across the room. It skids on the ground and I know from the impact it has cracked. I shrug not caring. I can buy another one anyways.
I end up day dreaming and soon falling asleep. I never have enough sleep lately since. Dealing with Richard was upsetting and Skyler loosing her job is a huge problem. I throw a pillow over my head and fall into deep sleep.
Do you feel like a man when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I'll tell you my friend, one day this world's gon' to end
as your lies crumble down, a new life she has found. My ringtone vibrates in my dreams and I jolt awake searching for my phone. I find it underneath the couch and stick my hand as I grab it. The song Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus continues to play until I pick up the call. I clear my throat and try my best not to sound sleepy.
"Hello," I mumble still half asleep.
"Hey, Ednan. What's up?" She asks on the other end.
"Oh yeah," I say, slowly, "I found a few jobs for you."
It gets quiet and Skyler begins to speak quietly, the reaction I wasn't looking for, "Ednan, thanks, but right now I am not ready for another job." She lowers her voice even more, "If fate chooses for something to happen to Hailey it will no matter how hard I try,"
"So, you're giving up." I say, wide awake, angry.
"You know that isn't what I meant," She croaks, "I have to go." She says her voice shaking and she hangs up.
I stare at my screen and throw the phone at the wall. It shatters, the entire screen cracks and falls on the floor leaving glass pieces everywhere. I shuffle to my bed once more and flop onto it resting my head.
I am awaken with a shudder and a smack against my chest. My body begins to numb and heat flashes through me. Here we go again, I groan inwardly.
The Demon and I jump into the night. I maintain to leave myself emotionless. Lately, I haven't been myself one bit. I tried my best to be a person who doesn't feel sympathy for anything, but ever since I met Skyler she has ruined that goal for myself. I shudder and soar throughout the night. I watch as stars go by and trees blur away. All I see is a smudge of black as I fly through the clouds. I dip down into a street near a houses. I frown as I notice that this place is familiar. My heart begins to this loudly under my chest as I notice I am walking through Skyler's neighborhood.
