Ch. 13-
My Dad hasn't been home since the funeral so when I found him in his office after school I was a bit suprised. But the shock transformed to anger quickly and I stormed towards him right away.
"Dad!" I yell.
He looks at me and takes a long puff from his cigar. He exhales it patiently and watches the cloud of smoke disappear. He then sighs and grimly says, "What do you want?"
"Where were you at these past few days?"
"Work," My Dad replies and puffs his cigar again.
"Liar." I say.
I quickly stiffen and close my eyes. Dad placed the cigar down in his silver ash tray and then raises his hand, smacking me in the face. I swallow the bile down and wait while my flaming cheek begins to heal. When I finally open my eyes I find my Dad staring at me with a hard mad stare.
When we both make eye contact, my Dad calmly begins to speak, "Don't say that to me ever again."
I stay quiet and frown at how relaxed my Dad is. My frown gets deeper as I remember Mrs.Hernandez and her taunting advice, Love everyone around you before it is too late.
I glare harder at my Dad, "Then tell me why you left me with that crazy woman."
"The kind Mrs.Hernandez?" He ask and I stiffly nod my head.
"We had to give her our respect." He says.
I frown, "What do you mean we? You left me with her while you went and had fun." I say trying to keep my voice low.
My Dad frowns, his patients are now gone. He waves his hands around, "Just leave and go do your homework or whatever you usually do."
I stand there tense and angry, but I do leave. If I don't he would call security. It happened before, so I would know.

The next day Sky avoided me. She hasn't looked up once from her sketchbook. I quickly finish cleaning and as Mrs.Horan leaves for her coffee break I slide into the seat infront of Sky.
"Hey, Sky." I say.
She looks up at me and puts her pencil between the pages, bookmarking it with her pencil as she shuts it.
"Hi."
It becomes quiet. I have been a jerk for weeks now and was projecting my anger at her instead of my father. I don't plan on apologizing so now I don't know what to do.
"Do you have anything to say?" She says knowing what I came here for.
I clench my teeth. I know I am in the wrong but I'be never been the one to apologize so the words take awhile to form, but I finally do say it, "Sorry." And I truly meant it.
She smiles at me and the tension has fizzles. "Ever since the first day you transferred here, we bumped heads. So, let's start fresh?" She suggests.
I smile in agreement and lend out my hand. She takes it for a handshake, her palm small and soft.
"My name is Skyler Williams."
"Ednan Alamy." I reply and she beams at me.
"So, why have you gone by Sky for?"
She twists her lips and then shrugs, "Because Richard calls me Sky, so everyone else does so too."
"Well, we don't like him, Skyler." She smiles full toothed and finally notice something that I didn't have before.
