Okay. Nathan is a complex character so I probably have this wrong. I see Nathan as similar to Chloe but Chloe was surrounded by good people, Nathan was surrounded by bad people. They both are terrible people but because of both of their inability to change, the people around Nathans life used, made him worse and exploited it.

I see it this way because of what he was like before the storm (before he met Jefferson) and what he was like in that one time line. His dad clearly fucked him up but Jefferson and other students made him worse.

Because I believe this I thought of an idea where Nathan actually wanted to change, it isn't clear when he died so consider this an au where Y/N managed to save Nathan before the party and along with Max and Chloe, all four of you sacrificed Arcadia bay. Now Nathan is willing to change and start a new life.

Onto the one shot

You two did plan to run away so you both were prepared. But you didn't expect it to happen like this, with all of Arcadia gone and destroyed. And Nathan DEFINITELY didn't expect or want 2 others to come with you two.

Chloe drove with Max at the front seat. You and Nathan sat at the back in silence, Nathan had to admit although he was a bit sad about everyone, apart of him felt relieved that the Prescott's and their land we're gone from his life. But you were different, you actually had good people in your life you'd miss. So he stayed silent, not wanting to bother you.

At least with his money and yours and Nathan's plans to leave before, all 4 of you can leave with slightly less worry.

Now all 4 of you are in Seattle, with Nathan frustrated at the realisation that growing a new leaf would be harder then he thought. You being you, you help him out the best you can despite him insisting he can do it. Everyone knew that was a lie.

Now the two of you are sitting on your bed, talking.

"First of all, you are taking your meds and going to your therapist. LISTENING to what they say"

"I didn't even bring my meds"

"I know. I did."

"The medication doesn't help"

"If after a bit the meds don't help then we can try something else"

"How long is that gonna take?!?"

"As long as it needs, that's why you wanted me to run away with you, right?" you asked as you put an arm around him into a side hug.

"Yeah...." he mumbled, buried himself into your body.

"Second rule, if you do something wrong, you accept the punishment. Only if it's unfair do you not accept the punishment"

"What I-"

"Your family doesn't own Seattle, your spoilt, there is nothing wrong with that but you tend to think your invisible to punishment and do whatever you want. It's okay, well not okay but you know what I mean. Anyway if you do bad things, you can redeem yourself as long as you accept what you did was wrong and take the punishment"

"..... Any other rules?" he sounded grumpy, he always did hate rules.

"No" you kissed his cheek "love you"

"Love you too" he grumpily said with a pout, it was honestly cute.

"Anyway" you said as you stood up "since you've been so good since we got here, I think we should go whale watching. You know that thing I've been wanting us two to do ever since I found out your love for whales"

You could tell Nathan liked the idea. He got up and followed behind you.

Timeskip

The boat was relaxing, the rocking motion mimicked a mother rocking it's baby to sleep, maybe that's why it's so relaxing.

The beaches were definitely better then Arcadia Bay's was, the air was fresher, the whales were better here, pretty much everything in Seattle was better. You remembered how sad Nathan was at seeing the dead whales but didn't want to admit it, he listened to whale sounds that night for so long he wore it out.

At least the whales you were watching now are much healthier, and loved showing off to the boat, much to Nathan's delight.

Timeline where Max sacrifices Chloe

Being able to see every time line Max manipulates has its pros and cons, right now you can see the cons.

You just saved Nathan and now you have to say goodbye to him, in order to save Arcadia, you have to let your friend die and let your boyfriend go to jail. It hurt.

You watched silently as Max went into the bathroom with a certain soft haired boy going in a few second's later and another blue haired girl following behind.

Kate was next to you, noticing your silent she asked what was wrong, it was only then you realised a tear going down your face. Only 2 second's later everyone, including you, flinched at the loud gunshot and triggered a trail of security to go into the girls bathroom.

It only took 10 seconds for the guards to take Nathan out restrained with Max sneaking behind, feeling awkward at everyone looking at her and sad at the same time from seeing her friend die in front of her.

She gave you a look of sympathy. You tried to hold in your tears as much as you could but as soon as Nathan and the guards got out of site, you completely broke.

"Y/N?" Kate looked worried. But the lumb in your throat stopped you from speaking, you couldn't do anything except slip into a sitting position with your knees up and cry.

"Y/N?!?" Kate bent down to you trying to sooth you the best she could. Max walked up to you and joined the 2 of you on the floor

"Y/N I'm so sorry" Max hugged you
