"Look, I know that we'll not be able to see each other for a while b-" Anna starts
"A year" I correct and look into her eyes again. I don't want her to go, but I can't stop her and I won't ruin it for her
"Yeah. But It'll be good for me and I'll text you and call you" she finishes
"As long as you bring lots of German food with you, I guess it's fine" I smile
"Really?" She asks me in disbelief
"Yeah" I sigh with a smile. I know it'll be good for her so it's okay.
"I-"
"Hey guys!"
"Hey" Anna greets
I turn around and see Sophia and Ben standing in front of me and Anna. Sophia wears a yellow,red and orange striped T-shirt with jeans and red shoes. Ben wears dark brown jeans with a belt in the same color and a navy blue T-shirt tucked in his jeans.
I look into their eyes and wonder how they'll react to the news.
Will they be mad? Proud? Sad? Will they even say something?
"Hey" I greet as well and motion for them to sit down.
"You left your wallet in the room" Ben says and hands me my wallet as he sits down next to me
"Oh, thank you" I answer, I thought I put it in my backpack
"No worries" He replies and takes the menu card from the table "You missed the reunion of Nemo and Marlin" He mumbles as he looks through the coffee's
"I know. Was it good?" I ask even though I already know what happens
"Yeah. I thought you've seen Nemo before?" He questions me after realizing what I just said
"I'm messing with you. Did you cry? " I ask. I don't want them to know the one thing that I keep deep down in my heart. The one memory I just got back from the big storage room in my brain where it keeps my childhood memories to itself because it wants to protect me. I want this to be a memory that only I know. That one happy memory I have from them. Because I don't have many. My brain hides them from me.
"NO. Of course not" He states
"Sure" I force the smile back on my face
"You okay?" He asks
"Yeah. Totally fine" I lie. Why do I keep lying now? I thought I don't want to lie anymore.
"Here's the Hot Chocolate and the Rose latte for you" The waitress says from behind
I turn around, thank her with a smile and listen to Sophia and Ben who order drinks for themselves. I look at my cup and smile. I love hot chocolate. It's ranked 3 on my favorite food list, right under Pancakes and above confite de canard. Please remember it, it's not funny if you don't.
By the way, that was a joke, I never ate confite de canard in my life.
Ernie can live, I promise.
"I have to tell you guys something. Maven already knows this" I hear from the chair next to me
"Okay? Shoot" Sophia responds as I turn around to look at Anna
"I will do an exchange year in Germany. And before you say something.." Anna starts as I look between Ben and Sophia. Their mouths dropped.
"I will call you and send you pictures, tell you how it is in Germany and I'll send you food" She says. Locking her eyes with mine which makes me smile "It'll be good for me. Take some time off, see something new, see another culture" Anna finishes and watches their faces carefully, seeking for some answers
