It’s been two days since Anna and I have met Tony Stark. It’s been weird between Anna and I, because she wants to know why I acted like that in front of him and I can’t tell her. I’ve been avoiding her for that very reason. And for another one. I hate it.
Why was he even there? Everything started getting out of hand after I saw the Captain and him in the city. That I know now. I also know that he or the other Avengers as well are most likely trying to find me. I’m not dumb, if they smell something is off, they’ll go after it until they know everything. And I don’t want them to know anything.
I like my life like this but when they find out who I am, it will be different and that’s what has been keeping me awake the last two days. Thousands of questions are running through my head. What will happen? What will they do? Will they even do anything at all? Will I even notice them? What will they do if they find out that I have powers? Will they send me to a special prison of enhanced teens? Does that even exist? And, and, and…
“Earth to Maven” I hear a soft voice which takes me out of my thoughts
My vision clears and I am met with the eyes of a particular boy.
“Ben. Sorry, what did you say?” I ask
“I didn’t say anything. I walked in and you just stood here not moving an inch” He explains
“Oh”
“What is wrong with you? You’ve been acting weird. Anna too”
“I didn’t- she- she doesn't. Everything is fine” I assure him
“You do realize that everytime you say that you’re fine, you’re not” Ben states and steps forward
“I’m fine” I answer coldly and walk out
“No, no you’re not” I hear which makes me stop in my tracks in the middle of the hallway for a moment
“No, no I’m not” I repeat quietly so he can’t hear it
I sit in the cafeteria. Ben, Sophia and Anna are sitting with me at our usual table. The radio in the room is on for the first time in month. It was broken because a kid, a few years younger than me, accidentally threw a ball at it and it fell to the ground. Some random channel is broadcasted, talking about the weather.
“A total of 1,125 people have been killed by police in the US this year. The US government has not kept a comprehensive record of how many people are killed by law enforcement (though new efforts are under way) – so this year the Guardian decided to do just that. The resulting database tells the story of those who were killed: their demographics and how they died. The project was inspired in part by one of those individuals whose death became one of the biggest news stories of 2015. In April a 25-year-old African American man named Freddie Gray died from injuries he sustained while he was in the custody of the Baltimore police department. Gray’s death – and the more than 1,000 others documented so far this year – have become a focal point for those protesting against police brutality and racial injustice in America.” The woman on the radio says and almost everyone was quiet until she stopped talking
“The police sucks” I hear from the table next to ours
“Maybe the police were just protecting themselves. They always have to make drama out of everything” I hear from another
“Now to the next topic of today. The$517million in global ticket sales during the opening weekend of Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned the film a record, second only to Jurassic World’s opening weekend earlier this year. On Sunday, the film jetted ahead of Jurassic World and reached $1bn at the global box office in a record 12 days.”
