Jeong Hyeok had dreamed for so many days on how he would take care of his Seri and their family... Despite being then in the North and trusting his wife completely, there was something completely new about being the man in charge, taking care of simple things like meals, short strolls with Seri on the surrounding fields, playing the piano and reading to his wife poems, beautiful poems he had writen during all the time they had been apart...
Seri seemed to have forgotten about her busy life in Seoul and nothing seemed to matter to her more than being there, safe, next to her husband and feeling her children were growing day by day in her belly. All was alright now. All would be alright if they remained together and for now their babies' safety was their priority.
One day, they were sitting on the porch, watching the sunset, feeling such a peacefulness that words were needless, as if they could read each orther's thoughts... Feeling the cold breeze, Jeong Hyeok went inside the hut to get a warm blaket he then gently put around his wife shoulders and sat right next to her, holding her in his arms...
- You know... If I could stay this way, here, with you...
Seri grinned and teased him:
- Away from the rest of the world, the madness, the Capitalism...
He laughed at her joke and added:
- Well I could start hunting, breed some goats or sheep, and you could bake, make some cheese...
- Or I could be a digital influencer!
- Since we have no Internet in here... I don't think that would be possible!
- Oh I see! We could just raise our kids here, teach them here in the oldfashion way...
- I was raised with no fancy stuff! In the North we lack so many things... books are scarce and there are no digital tools, most of the people don't even know they exist...
- It must have been hard, living that way...
Jeong Hyeok took some seconds to figure out what to say:
- In my particular case, I was blessed because my family have always been powerful and my parents always provided the best education possible to my and my brother but, still, I could see how some of my friends lived... and I was aware it was very difficult for them, and when I went to Switzerland, I could understand my country was so different in so many ways...
- It must be hard for your family having someone like me in the family...
- No, no Seri... we may have different backgrounds... come from a different culture and political environment but my family understand you and they are totally supportive when it comes to our love story... My mother absolutely loves you and my father is constantly saying he misses his «lively capitalist daughter»!
They both laughed and held closer. If only they could remain that way forever...
It was getting darker and the couple went inside. They had a light dinner and since Seri was feeling particularly tired, they went to bed, where she fell asleep in her husbands strong arms...
But Jeong Hyeok couldn't sleep. Since the previous three nights, his mind was upset, restless, as if he was sensing something was not Ok or about to end those perfect moments... They had been together for the past months and for the first time, he could feel what is was to be actually married, taking care of his family, being the man in charge and Seri, always so controlling, had learned to let herself being taken cared of by the man of her life, understanding it was the best way to slow down and prevent herself from doing something stupid, that could eventually hurt her babies and herself.
Despite the fact there was absolutely no connection to the world other than the heliocopter that came every two weeks to take them to the doctor and bring provisions, Jeong Hyeok had a special phone with satellite connection he only used if necessary. And the only person he could exchange some text messages with was Jin Tae who, in all that time, had been secretly monitoring any suspicious movement towards Se Ri or Jeong Hyeok. Se Ri was about to return to Seoul to give birth to the twins and that moment had to be well planeed in order to not jeopardize her safety and the babies'.
Jeong Hyeok gently got off the bed and, making sure Se Ri was asleep, he moved around the hut like a ghost, in the dark, until he got the device, hidden behind a shelf and turned it on. Outside, the wind blew so strong and snow had begun to fall but, inside it was warm and cosy. He started wishing there would be no text message from Jin Tae so he could return to bed and fall asleep next to his beloved family but, against all his wishes, there was a new message from the secret agent, waiting to be read.
«The weather has changed. Prepare for an evacuation tomorrow in two days. I'll give you more instructions tomorrow».
And that was it. The dream was about to end. The moment he had feared was about to happen. There was no way he would be left alone and he had to face the consequences of struggling for his happiness. The moment was no longer just he and Se Ri, most of all it was about his babies and they would whatever, no matter how hard, to keep them safe and away from any danger. He took his place next to Se Ri and held her, feeling her warm body, her belly so close to him and all he could to was to whisper:
- It will all be alright my dear Se Ri. I will take care of everything... Don't you worry, soon we will be free from all the shadows that keep on threatening our happiness... I promise you, Se Ri, I will take care of my family... Just focus on our babies and I will do the rest... Just trust your Captain, my love...
