Imagine Se Ri's and Jeong Hyeok's thoughts, before she left to the airport, leaving him forever, to return home... The first time they faced a separation and the fear of losing each other...
The guys were doing all they could to make that moment memorable... The afternoon was great, the mood... well, they all knew that was a goodbye picnic so, they knew Yoon Se Ri was almost on her way to Europe and they would never meet again. So, despite the laughter, the feeling was of sadness. Each one of them would miss her, in their own way... a big sis, a friend... or a capitalist woman, full of wrong ideas but, still, a great woman. She would be missed, no doubt... her cheerfulness had brought them some colour to their dull lives, and she would definitely be remembered. Of course, they knew Captain Ri, of them all, would be the one who'd miss her more...
Yoon Se Ri was standing, from a distance, focusing on each boy, grateful for having their friendship and protection. She knew it was impossible but, she only wished they'd meet in Seoul... boy, she would definitely repay them all the kindness, with special presents and magical experiences... But there they were. In a place she's never expected to be, in a country she didn't understand, with a group of honourable man, and falling for their captain. She was leaving, but her heart was broken. It was a swallow in her throat... a weird sensation of, for the first time in her life, not having what she most wanted...
She had expected him to come to the picnic but Jeong Hyeok had sent his man and gone elsewhere. So, she missed him there, like she knew she'd miss him each second of her life, once they'd be apart...
The meal, the poem, the efforts to show they cared for her, it was more than anyone had done for her. All her life she was seen as a powerful woman, attracting the men's attention for her wealth and beauty but never for who she was. Those five men had taken her, a foreign, an enemy, no money, no expensive clothes, just Se Ri, the woman who'd crash landed on North Korea... and they all had put their lifes at risk, just by protecting her. So, she was grateful, she was and she would ever. They had done so much for her...
The next minute, she was singing. Se Ri, who never sang, was singing and putting all her emotion on each note, each lyric... it was her way to say «thank you», and when her eyes finally met Jeong Hyeok, who'd just arrived, she felt that emotion, that fear of leaving him, and pretended that song was for him... she pretended each lyric was meant to him... she wanted to say «I love you, I love you like I've never love anyone before, but I can't... I know I can't...».
He kept staring at her but she couldn't read his eyes... he was wearing that mask, as if he wanted to hide his feelings, maybe to prevent himself to suffer from her departure.
When they got home, neither Se Ri nor Jeong Hyeok spoke a word. They had dinner like they always did, pretending it was an ordinary evening, like the ones they had shared and they would treasure forever...
«Why is it so hard for me to leave?» - Se Ri was thinking to herself, trying to memorize each corner of that house. «This is what I want the most, go home and these men have done so much... I can't stay... I can't... but I want it so badly..., why do I feel like crying...».
- Yoon Se Ri? – she heard Jeong Hyeok knocking at the door. – Are you ready? The car is here, it's time.
- Yes... in a minute... - she had spent the last five minutes, locked in the living room, trying to picture her life, with him, from that day on.
Once outside, seeing she was heading to the car, assuming he would take her, he touched her arm and said:
- I can't take you to the airport... I have some business to take care of, so we part our ways here.
Se Ri looked at him, without really knowing what to say:
- But I thought you would take me to the airport...
Jeong Hyeok was fighting to remain indifferent to her teary eyes. He knew she was sad, he knew she wouldn't understand...
- Take care on your way back... - oh, if only he could take her in his arms, kiss her for real, shed her tears, take her home and show her how much he cared, how much she had changed his life and how much he would love to have her besides him, the rest of his life. But he couldn't. More than saying goodbye, he had to make sure nothing bad would happen to her. She was more important than anyone to him, so he would keep his promise to grant her safety.
She was now telling him she would miss him... a lot, and that they wouldn't have the chance to talk in future. That thought made him see she was in pain, too. All he could ask was for her to forget about everything she had lived there. Pretend it had been a nightmare... It was the same as asking her to forget about him... but, would that be easy? Was he willing to do the same? Would he ever forget about that woman, that lady who'd conquered his heart and his mind? She hadn't been a nightmare but a dream, a beautiful dream, he'd never wanted to wake up from... He knew he would still wake up, in the middle of the night, go to her room, to make sure if she was alright, sleeping in safety... She had grown on him, she had become a part of him... and he didn't know if he could possibly live without her anymore...
Jeong Hyeok stretched his hand... it was time for goodbye. Se Ri looked at it, sighed and asked for a hug. His hug. She needed that to find the strength to move on but he couldn't do it... If he'd touch her again, he wouldn't be able to let her go, give up on her. He was about to take her in his arms and that would mean he would never let her leave. So, he stood there, fighting against all his wishes, all his inner desire to take her. He used that mask, a mask of indifference and said nothing.
She finally took his hand. Warm, soft and strong, as always. That was all she was gonna take, so she braced herself to leave, knowing she would never see him again...
Minutes later, Se Ri was in the car, and pretty soon, she'd be away from the man she loved... away from all she had learned to love. And it felt like hell... she wanted to stay, but she couldn't ask him to accept her, he had his life, his bride and she had already asked so much of him...
However, the pain was so hard, so strong, so unbeareable...
«I have to go, but I want to stay... with you... I love ... now I know I do...» - why was she feeling so torn, so devastated, so desperate? In two hours she would be closer to home and he would stay there... ready to marry Dan.
That thought stroke her like a lightning. He should be with her... she knew he was the one.
Park Kwang Beom suddenly whispered, waking her from her painful thoughts:
- What is that?!
Yoon Se Ri didn't know but she sensed something was wrong, and felt panic was taking over her. She immediately thought of Jeong Hyeok and, in her mind, one thought: «Where are you? Something is wrong... without you, all is wrong... where are you?»
