After the scene at the restaurant, in Pyongyang, when Jeong Hyeok is already in his hotel room...
When Jeong Hyeok went to bed that night, his head was spinning so fast, millions of thoughts haunting him, driving him mad. And cause to all of it? Yoon Se Ri. Who else?
That day had been crazy... from waking up in an open field, with her laying on his lap like a defenceless child, to ending the night in a restaurant, where she had confessed him what he feared the most, well he had to admit anything was possible around that woman.
He tried to cool himself down but, he couldn't. He got off the bed, got undressed and went to take a shower, freezing water, in order to set his mind straight...
While he was standing still, feeling the water on each pore of his athletic body, another name came to his mind: Goo Seung-Joon. The ex-boyfriend... Just the thought of that guy made him curse the minute he had chosen that hotel to bring Se Ri... An ex-fiancée? Really? A stuck up guy, full of himself, flirting with Se Ri right in front of his eyes? He knew that guy had something wrong... He looked totally suspicious, trying to get all her attention and she was so naive she was ready to trust him, completely, having even given him his phone number and all!
«Ah Se Ri... Damn it! No matter what I do to protect you, there you have it, you leave the hotel to take a walk with him? WITH HIM? How can you be so innocent? That guy is fishy and you think he is your destiny? Really? That guy? What about me? Huh? I'm am your destiny, for God's sake! You crash landed in my arms, how's that for destiny?!»
The thought she had a past with that guy made him contract his jaw. What if he'd try to win her back? Trick her somehow? Convince her to stay with him in the city? No... that couldn't happen because she was his responsibility and, even though she thought he had no power, he'd show her he had, he show her he was an worth of her, he too had the power to take her home... But then, again, why did he have to prove himself to her? He was engaged... in two weeks he'd be married and the picky princess would be back to her amazing country. And he'd find his long lost peace and face a future, planned ever since he was a boy. No excitement, no love, no attachment. The perfect match. Yes, everything would become as predictable as it had been, before that woman had landed on him.
Feeling more relaxed, he stepped out the bathtub and went to his room. For some seconds, he stood in front of the window, the city outside... the cars, the noise... and the snow. It was snowing. He immediately remembered about what Yoon Se Ri had said, about the first snow... And how her mood had changed when she had mentioned his girlfriend... As if the fact he had someone in his life bothered her...
The room was cold but he was boiling, inside. Thinking about that woman was messing with his nerves... He took off his shirt, and remained only in boxer shorts... He then fell on the bed, staring at the ceiling and recalled every single second of that day... Seeing her walking with another guy had really upset him... he felt as if he would punch him, take her by the arm and make her see the only way she could be safe then and always was with him by her side. He had been trained and he was the best to prevent any foolish thing she would do, that could put her in jeopardy... That guy was no good, he could sense that... But, ok, she had left him behind and obeyed when he had told her she should stay with him...
Then, the restaurant... the change of mood... and, suddenly that sentence, that confession... Could it be that...
He sighed and closed his eyes. No, it couldn't be... was Se Ri sad to be leaving North Korea? Was that what she had meant? She should be happy, exhilarating, but... instead, she was sad. But why? He couldn't figure her out...
The strange thing was, she was in so many aspects so different from him, that capitalist witty way of facing life, but he felt she made sense in his life... she was a breeze of fresh air in his dull and strict life, a constant challenge to his patience and his peace. And she was attractive. She was. And beautiful. And sensitive. And generous. And kind... And it was so easy to be next to her, as if it was so natural, so as it should be!
«Ah Se Ri...!» - he punched a pillow and was suddenly upset because he knew – even though he didn't want to admit - she had more effect in him, than he wished, than any other woman before.
He grabbed his wallet and took a picture, inside. There she was. Beautiful, her skin like fine porcelain, her dreamy eyes, her cherry lips and that smile... that smile that drove him crazy... She should leave so, why was he keeping a picture of her? Why was he sad, too? Why being next to Dan was somehow like a sacrifice, an obligation, and not knowing where Se Ri was, painful? And how to explain the relief once his eyes would set on her and he'd see she was safe and sound... The joy to see her happy and smiling, even though he knew she missed all the capitalist comfort and all her millions...
He gently placed the picture on the wallet and realize, for the first time in his life, he didn't know why that woman bothered him so much, to the point that he'd do anything in his power to send her back home, not because he wanted to get rid of her, but because he knew it was the only thing that'd make her happy...
He closed his eyes... the sound of Se Ri's laughter made him smile, too.
«Yoon Se Ri... What am I going to do with you?» - he whispered, before falling asleep, with the picture of Yoon Se Ri in his hand, next to his heart.
