Step 17-Shop for the right dress

The morning classes went by fast. I went to the cafeteria to grab some lunch and wait for Rebecca and June.

Minutes later, June was in sight. I almost fell off my chair when I saw her looking moony-eyed at Troy who was walking with her. She had her arm knotted around his. The two just strode past me and left me gawking at them.

Okay... what's with June?

Someone poked my cheek and I snapped out of some kind of trance. "Wh...what?" I turned and saw Rebecca who was looking at June and Troy, too.

"Troy asked her," she explained.

My brain took a moment before I could get what she meant. Troy asked to be her date for the prom. Wow. At least she had a date.

"Oh. I see." I sighed and took a sip from my Diet Coke. "What 'bout you?" She looked down and slowly shook her head.

I pinched her cheek. "Hey, don't worry. I'm sure some guy will show up sooner or later to ask you," I assured. "Anyway, how about we go shopping later?"

Her face lit up. That was Becca for you. Always up to shop. "Sure!"

"C'mon!" Becca said as she pulled me to another boutique in the mall. It was the third boutique and she still had not found the right dress for prom yet. My stomach was growling. It was past eight, and we still hadn't had dinner yet. I tried to protest to Becca, but all I that I could do was to go with the flow.

Becca immediately scanned the racks like a detective searching for clues. I did some searching too. About a minute or two later, I found the perfect dress for me. It was a knee-length, pink chiffon dress. Not too flashy, not too simple, just the right one for me.

I took it out and showed it to Becca. Thankfully, the shopping detective approved it. She also showed me her perfect dress. It was a blue dress—sparkly and glamorous, just like her.

I was thankful, not because we found gorgeous dresses, but because Becca was finished shopping, and dinner's next. Gosh I was so hungry! I wonder if Becca heard my stomach's protests.

After we paid, I immediately pulled Becca to the fast food restaurant just in front of the boutique. Becca was hungry as well because she didn't say anything as I pulled her in, normally she'd complain about eating unhealthy foods from these kinds of restaurants.

We ordered our burgers and chicken, and went to find a vacant table. After we ate, Becca said we should also buy our accessories. I agreed and then we were off.

It was past 9 PM when I got home. Dad was still watching TV. But the way he sighed when I got home, together with his body language, told me he waited for me. I gave him a good-night kiss before I went upstairs.

Shopping definitely got my mind off of things. My mind didn't even touched the any thought about Gavin, or Logan, or Stacey!

I hope June won't get angry at us because we didn't even ask her to join us. Well, she was busy anyway. But because I love this girl so much I called her before I went to sleep.

"Heya!" she said.

"Hi June. Uhmm...I just want to say, I'm very, very sorry."

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"Uh...Becca and I went shopping without you."

"WHAT?!" I heard her inhale and exhale before speaking again. "Okay. Don't worry Joanne, it is okay. I was busy anyway." She giggled.

I grinned, even though she could not see me. "Yeah. Well, spill it out. How did he ask you?"

"Tomorrow, don't worry I'll tell you every detail."

We talked for another hour and then went to sleep. I felt relieved that June didn't get angry at us.
